A welterweight fight that has been in development since last fall finally has a date and a home. The long-ago agreed-to welterweight clash between Kudratillo Abdukakhorov and Sergey Lipinets will now take place October 10, live on Showtime from crowdless Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut. The bout will be contested for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) interim welterweight title at stake, with the winner will be first in line for a mandatory shot at unified welterweight titlist Errol Spence Jr.

Glad Matis is getting sent back against tough opposition Hawkins ranked #15 by boxrec . Let's see if he can get back on track to becoming a champion.

I'm not completely sold on Hawkins either so this is a fight Matias can definitely win. But he's a flawed fighter himself and according to his team, didn't take camp serious at all last time around. That's a big no no.

Shet's coming together nicely on SHO, these two have been on collision course for a while and it should be a well balanced match up... ain't expecting real fireworks but a solid fight nonethless, winner here should get a shot a one of the top US Welters.

Interested in hearing your thoughts on Matias going forward and if you still rate him highly or not. I remember reading your prospect thread on him and he was one of the prospects you were most high on.

Damn, man... don't come to me for insight! There's a reason I'm languishing somewhere down about #20 in the prediction league this year. S'like all my boxing acumen evaporated at New Year.

Yeah I still got hopes for Subriel... the kid is a real talent I think - it's still unclear whether or how much the Dadashev tragedy affected him - but more serious appears to be issue of his commitment and will (and who knows, could be that's a consequence of the tragedy too, these things don't always manifest in the most obvious ways).

The report from his trainer raises a real serious red flag for me, cos no amount of talent can overcome a lack of dedication for long. Another major red flag was simply that Subriel didn't really show the drive to really dig in when he found himself in trouble against Ananyan... could be he'll learn from the experience, it's always a shock for these wunderkinder when they first run into someone who doesn't fall down, and some of 'em can come back stronger for it...

With Subriel... well, wait and see, the talent's there but I'm doubtful at this point.

That report was both a red flag and hope that maybe he can still be who we thought he was on his way to becoming before his last fight. It all depends if he can dedicate himself to the sport and fulfill his talent. I thought he eked out the win in his last fight but I'm not mad he didn't get the decision either way I was disappointed by his performance. That was not quite the same fighter who fought Maxim .

I’m impressed with the fact that haymon and Arum got together for a fight that isn’t ppv. Great stuff
