But he's not exactly given fair chances is he? He's put into fights where he's a massive underdog. Because now he's seen as a stepping stone (i.e. written off). That's how they do you in boxing. You're a prospect one night, and the next night you're a stepping stone.

In 2005 when Pacquiao was fighting Barrera/Morales no one cared that Pacquiao had 4 losses and Barrera/Morales had 3 losses, they just knew it was going to be a great fight between two great fighters.

Fast Forward to today, and whenever a fight gets made people have to look at records of the fighters.

That's the Mayweather effect. He's responsible for poisoning the minds of boxing fans, boxing media and also promoters.

Mayweather is one of the best ever. None of these average fighters like Valdez would ever achieve that. Any boxer would hope to reach that height. If Floyd quit at 135, he would still be a decorated elite boxing champion. I think the rest was a bonus.

      The rest included wins over:

      Canelo
      Pacquiao
      Cotto
      Mosley
      Maidana
      Guerrero
      and others.

      Floyd beat everyone.

Undefeated, great resume, rich beyond his wildest dreams. Any fighter should want that. If they think that set a negative precedent, then I'll just chalk it off to jealousy. They know they would never reach those heights, and talk about Floyd for publicity.

By the way, every boxer should strive to be undefeated. Floyd didn't have a loser mentality.

      To each their own.

Mayweather's undefeated streak was Floyd's (and Vegas') draw for the casual fan. Lots of fans paid to see if Floyd could continue undefeated. Without the streak, who would have paid to see Floyd fight? Floyd was a top guy but definitely not a fan friendly fighter.
The undefeated record was his passport to the big money and Floyd and his team protected it like it was the goose that laid the golden egg.

valdez is right to a certain extent

haymon/mayweather went the extreme in avoiding pacman in his prime
don't tell me those guys didn't do everything in their power to avoid that fight then
                  money, testing, blah blah

to each is their own, but mayweather/haymon's goal was to make money, not please the fans.
so many of us prefer the leonards, durans, chavez who fought more frequently when the fans wanted it.

Not every fighter is as unique a Floyd. The kind of mindset that fighters should not lose is a poison that's destroying the sport. It leads to fighters not fighting the best and avoiding challenges just to keep their '0' alive. Btw, you mentioned Tank cleaning up his division? WTH is he doing now? Did he even clean up his previous division (130)?

I tell you once again, Floyd is unique and good for him making legacy from the being undefeated and making loads of money, but the mindset is wrong cause it doesn't apply to other boxers. Look what undefeated boxers have achieved nowadays following Floyd's blueprint
