If you are saying that Canelo has a narrow but deep fan base, I agree. I don't think Golden Boy has done as good a job marketing Canelo to the American fans as Arum did in marketing Pacquiao. I also agree that DAZN does a lousy job of marketing its fighters.

If Wilder manages to beat Fury he will be able to continue PPV if he loses again he goes back to fighting on Fox or Showtime. Do you even watch boxing or is it you just constantly try placing your tongue in Canelo's ass.
Just curious what the hell your thinking sometimes.

We loyally supported them for a hundred years before they finally won a World Series. On the South Side, the White Sox were much better, but should we have complained when the Sox special had promotions when the Sox played the worst teams in the league.

Canelo fans are just fans. They support him when he fights future hall of famers and when he fights "no hopers". That is what fans do. Are all fans being foolish? The reality is that all fighters, Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, Floyd Mayweather and the rest of the all time greats fought more journeymen than all time greats. They need to ply their trade and all time greats, or future hall of famers are few and far between. If I do have a criticism of Canelo's team it is that Oscar and Golden Boy seem to be inept at promoting and closing deals. They don't seem to have any vision. DAZN is just as bad, perhaps worse.

I think cheering for "ones own" however defined, is inescapable or normal, but I also think we should recognize the shortcoming of our own and appreciate the talents and accomplishments of those who are on the opposing side. I appreciated the Yankees back in the day, but still cheered for my Cubbies.
as a Mets fan who has to share the city with the Yankees, I can relate to your pain and understand your point of fans remaining loyal to their team. But, yes, certain fans do stop attending games if they feel ownership is scamming them. Doesn't make you less of a fan, but you send a message with low attendance numbers that we won't accept being taken advantage of.

In addition, the difference in comparing sports is that, it's 1 thing to support your local team even if they suck. Even if they suck and owners take advantage of that fan base by not investing in the team as they should, the players on the field still have to go out and play whatever team is put in front of them. They can't pick and choose what teams they want to play. As a boxing fan, my priority is to see the best fights get made, and that will only happen if fans stop supporting mismatches and demand the fights that should be made. Canelo spent nearly 2 yrs being able to not face GGG because his handlers knew his fans would pay for inferior fights regardless. Currently, there is plenty of top young talent to choose from at 160 and 168 and I'm not going to put any money towards watching Canelo fight guys that are at disadvantages whether it be to skills, age, etc. So bottom line, should Canelo face a no hoper in his next fight, I hope it bombs. That way there will be more pressure to face one of the other top undefeated champions.

I think Canelo was on top of the boxing world when he had more exposure to the mainstream. He doesn’t have that now. I have not seen him spoken about at length in regular sports media since his signing of his contract. Agreed, dazn has done a horrible job of publicising their investment but I think that has a lot to do with the limitations of that particular medium. American sports fans get their sports from FOX, ESPN, ABC, NBC, CBS etc....they don’t watch NFL, NBA, MLB, college ball, Nascar, Figure Skating, Grand Slam tennis, triple crown tournaments, olympics etc on apps

I have to agree with Smith, I mean don't get me wrong I think Ryder beat Smith but at the end of the day he lost on paper, he doesn't bring anything to te table to Alvarez. Callum is still the WBA champ and the Ring champ so I'd much rather see a fight vs Smith than a fight vs Ryder, it just don't move the needle for me.

I know we are in a pandemic but if DAZN wants to get suscribers back it's gonna have to bring a good fight for Canelo, we'll see what happens.

He simply had not been as popular out of the public eye on an app and certainly no one is talking about him during the Rona era. Dazn has been clear that everyone is taking a pay cut so I imagine any offer for opponents now doesn’t look anything like it did when the contract was signed
Yes mayweather fights generated a whole lot more money. And you rarely, if ever, heard opponents saying Floyd is lowballing me. Because they wanted the chance to fight the biggest fighter in the world. And now these guys refuse to fight the biggest fighter today. Only explanation i can see is they are not confident in winning.

DAZN problem is reach, and that has nothing to do with Canelo. Canelo became popular fighting on networks ( HBO, SHOWTIME) Because they have a bigger reach, more viewers. When golden boy signed on with DAZN they were looking out for Golden Boy not Canelo, I know, I know, you're going to say that's a dumb comment because Canelo signed the richest contract in boxing history, but let me explain. When GB signed with DAZN it was because they were going to allow Oscar stage fights on DAZN bringing Canelo was just the cherry on top, Fox, ESPN, and Showtime all offered Canelo a contract but just for Canelo, they weren't interested in the golden boy stable and Oscar was looking for a network to stage their fighters and DAZN offered that. Network's weren't offering Canelo that same guaranteed purse, but if Canelo would of signed with a network his guaranteed purse probably would of been around 20 million, but you got to take into consideration that his fights would of been on PPV and would of had a much bigger audience and promotion, and that would of turned in about the same or even bigger purses from the PPV and advertisers. Bigger reach just means more money and popularity just like Pac and Mayweather were doing with bigger audiences. So yeah Golden Boy was looking out for themselves and not Canelo.
