for sure. He's definitely trying to gain an advantage by giving them minimal time to prepare. Preparing for a fight is different than just staying in shape. While some of these guys are likely staying in shape, they're probably not doing heavy road work and heavy sparring since Canelo has bounced around several names as options. Who wants to go through all that heavy training just because the almighty Canelo may or may not pick them.
Another outside possibility is that, since word is that he never renewed his vada 24/7 after it expired last yr, he won't get ped tested until a fight is announced.

to an extent yes, but there was marketing behind mayweather that wasn't targeted to take advantage of just 1 particular demographic. He played the villain role so that everyone would want to see him lose. He usually picked opponents coming off of big wins so people of all backgrounds would think his opponent had a shot because the perception is, you're only as good as your last fight. He fought on Mexican holidays to target that fan base. He created 24/7 to bring attention to all fans. They knew that they couldn't just rely on the black American fan base to generate big numbers. But since mexican/Mexican American fans are so passionate about boxing, they're mainly targeted in promoting Canelo because many will foolishly support anything he's involved in. Doesn't matter if he's fighting someone coming off a bad performance, doesn't matter if he's facing a notorious quitter, doesn't matter if he's targeting a nobody or past prime fighter, the promotors and dazn will bank on that fan base being willing to support it regardless based mainly on nationalism/ethnicity.

yeah the common denominator is that a Mexican would be involved in those fights. So even though Santa Cruz has been a notorious avoider of challenging fights, you'll pay to watch him. Even though ruiz proved himself to be a fat lazy undisciplined 1 hit wonder, you'll pay to see him in hopes that he suddenly will see the light. As I said. Gullible fan base.

At the end of the day Haymon is creating MExican Bidness and HOF’s! Haymon has more interest in Mexicanism. It’s the right thing to do.

Don't think that what you describe is a unique phenomenon. I was a long suffering Chicago Cubs fan growing up in the 50's. They were terrible and possibly, most years, would have lost to the NCAA college champs. Can we say that Mr. Wrigley was taking advantage of the devoted Cubs fan base by marketing to these folks. We loyally supported them for a hundred years before they finally won a World Series. On the South Side, the White Sox were much better, but should we have complained when the Sox special had promotions when the Sox played the worst teams in the league.

Canelo fans are just fans. They support him when he fights future hall of famers and when he fights "no hopers". That is what fans do. Are all fans being foolish? The reality is that all fighters, Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, Floyd Mayweather and the rest of the all time greats fought more journeymen than all time greats. They need to ply their trade and all time greats, or future hall of famers are few and far between. If I do have a criticism of Canelo's team it is that Oscar and Golden Boy seem to be inept at promoting and closing deals. They don't seem to have any vision. DAZN is just as bad, perhaps worse.

I think cheering for "ones own" however defined, is inescapable or normal, but I also think we should recognize the shortcoming of our own and appreciate the talents and accomplishments of those who are on the opposing side. I appreciated the Yankees back in the day, but still cheered for my Cubbies.

Mayweather actually attracted sports fans in general because people wanted to see him get beaten because of how he taunted oscar

The money generated by MAyweather was actually real. Canelo isn’t generating the money that mayweather did, especially since going to the app. Canelo was at the top of his interest game as a stand alone when he fought in Houston on HBO and did over 2m views on premium cable. He simply had not been as popular out of the public eye on an app and certainly no one is talking about him during the Rona era. Dazn has been clear that everyone is taking a pay cut so I imagine any offer for opponents now doesn’t look anything like it did when the contract was signed

Sounds a lot like Smith pricing himself out of a Canelo fight, and possibly any other meaningful fight, in the near/foreseeable future.
