My dads compadre was from Panama. The man graduated from USC with an engineering degree and eventually became a VP at McDonnell Douglas. My dads compadre didn't care for boxing but we did.

Back, back, back in the day dark or brown skin were all Mexican and then we became Hispanic. When I was stationed in Camp Le June in the early 80's I was Puerto Rican.

No one from Mexico is claiming Tito Trinidad or wilfred Benitez because they obviously do have Mexican heritage like Duran who like I’ve said before has gone on record saying he is proud of his Mexican heritage.

It’s really not that hard to understand and unlike most countries Mexico doesn’t need to “ beg” for fighters they’re boxing history is as rich as it comes so no need for that but when a fellow great shows his appreciation for a country that is part of him I see no issue for them adding him to they’re list of great fighters but that doesn’t mean he’s not Panamanian either.

If Duran was a bum on the street, people wouldn't want to claim him.. theyd want to deport him because he's Panamanian.

I get all the history etc but we are talking of a thread with 2 separate countries laying claim to a bloke whose from a third country.. maybe it's the America's way to do that. I'm sure all people are proud of heritage to some extent but they are what they are.. of someone says I don't see myself as that because I've been brought up here then fair do's.
