Comments Thread For: WBA Prez Admits It's Not Easy To Reduce The Number of Titles

The president of the World Boxing Association, Gilberto Mendoza, admits that there is difficulty in reducing the number of titles that his organization sanctions, but also states that credibility in an industry like boxing is not simply given by sanctioning a single title per weight class. In the last few years, the vast majority of fans have become tired of the countless world champions in every weight class.

I'm not a fan of excuses. Especially poor ones.

There should only be one title per sanctioning body outside of emeritus. Period. That way we eliminate paper champs entirely and the best fight the best more often.

He has a good point. "Fans are more attentive." Why stop if fans continue supporting numerous champions per class?

Still no reason why you need 3-4 WBA champs in every division. The WBA and WBC are awful, regular champ, interim, super and franchise.

It's not easy? MF you've ADDED a third title in the last year.

How hard can it be? Make 1 belt for division which is the current super champion. Get rid of any regular champions or any other lame belt and let those secondary belt holders know they're not really world champions, but more like a wwe intercontinental champion.
