Comments Thread For: Frampton: I Thought Katie Taylor Lost, She Can Make Statement in Persoon Rematch

In June 2019, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, Katie Taylor won a close twelve round decision over Delfine Persoon to unify the entire lightweight division. There were many who felt the outcome was controversial and Persoon had done more than enough to walk away with the titles.

Love Carl's honesty here, even Froch said she lost that fight, Paulie M on fight night said she lost, DAZN had it for Persoon. Even Adam smith did. But am not surprised that she took the rematch this short, considering how difficult the first fight was. She has easier choices that she could have gone with, she has plenty of choices. But if you follow her career from the amateur days and you know her background (Family-wise) then you would know she wouldn't say no to a rematch, even if her team doesn't want her to go ahead with it.

People claim robbery, but this was no Wilder vs. Fury 1. She won by a couple of rounds because unfortunately, judges somehow seem to think scoring is subjective...even though there's set-in-stone criteria for scoring a round. Persoon is just a come forward bruiser, she'll employ the exact same tactics she did in the first fight while Taylor will adjust and win a wide unanimous decision.

I vaguely remember the first fight, I recall it was an entertaining and grueling affair that I thought edged toward Person but could have gone either way.

That's the thing, it was a highly entertaining fight that I scored for persoon. Was i shocked that Taylor got the decision? Nope, was it a "Robbery?" Nope.

Fury/Wilder 1 was more of a "Robbery" if we are calling this a robbery. But hand on heart i just thought Persoon nicked it. She didn't deserve to have a L after that fight, a draw would have been better for both boxers.

Wow! Carl Frampton should be consistent and acknowledge his gift vs. Leo Santa Cruz. Delfine Persoon is going to comeback like Leo Santa Cruz and whoop Katie Taylor in the rematch.

What do you expect from a couple Britts and an Italian bucket mouth from the states?

It’s likely the short notice fight benefits Taylor. She has been keeping in shape in training camp. Not quite the same for Persoon

I’m fairly sure the timing is deliberate. I think it’s naive to think this is purely for redemption. This gives the most advantage for Taylor

It would be a shame for Persoon to lose because of the short timing, as she should have all of those titles already. But boxing is all smoke and mirrors unfortunately

Interesting assessment, didn't think of that angle. Makes sense but still a risk tho.

Persoon has surely been aware of the trouble Taylor's had getting the Serrano fight. I doubt there's any such advantage.
