Comments Thread For: Atlas Believes Gvozdyk Would Have Remained in Boxing if Return Stayed in Place

Teddy Atlas, the trainer of former WBC light heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk, believes the boxer would have stayed in the sport had a scheduled fight went forward. Gvozdyk has been out of the ring since October of 2019, when he suffered his first career defeat. He was dropped three times and stopped in the tenth round by Artur Beterbiev in their WBC, IBF light heavyweight unification clash.

I think putting a man in a coma brought him to terms with his mortality...

      good move

yeah your brain is never the same after a fight like the one with Beterbiev, good for him going on and pursuing business ventures, he will not be one of the broke punchy retired fighters.

And Floyd Patterson might have beat Sonny Liston, if he only had a third fight against him....

It will be interesting to see if The Nail ever makes a comeback, he's 33 now so while there is time there isn't much.

I'm sure the brutality of both the Stevenson and Beterbiev fights had a factor in his retirement as did the time away from the sport due to the pandemic (whether that be realizing he didn't miss it or frustration over not getting back in the ring).

Regardless, I wish him the best. He was entertaining in every bout I saw him fight.

I'm gonna miss him. He was a great fighter to watch. I'm sure those big purses in his last few fights have set him up for a comfortable life in his home country.

Yeah and Gvodzyk would still be undefeated if he didn't hire an imbecile like you ...
