Comments Thread For: Shakur Stevenson Confirms He'll Stay At 130 Pounds, Give Up WBO Featherweight Title

Shakur Stevenson is following through on his plan to remain at 130 pounds. The unbeaten Stevenson confirmed to ESPN.com on Thursday that he'll give up the WBO featherweight title he won eight months ago. Stevenson told BoxingScene.com following his 130-pound debut last month that he would remain at junior lightweight if he couldn't secure a featherweight title unification fight against England's Josh Warrington.

Tim Bradley is right. Stevenson should take his time and develop a little more, instead of rushing to another title shot.

He still needs work and has to build better name recognition.

Bradley is an ole Uncle Ruckus hater and happens to be wrong in this case. Even Ward said as much tonight. Warrington and Conlan won't fight him and Russell Jr. has eyes on other opportunities. Why shouldn't Stevenson go to 130 to face Berchelt, Diaz or Santa Cruz. There's even Colbert down the line. Great fighters are in a rush. Stevenson has the look of a great fighter.

Free belt for hype job Conlan so he and his buddy Kinahan can start selling tickets in Ireland.

“I think I should be in the rankings to fight for a title [at junior lightweight] ASAP. I think I deserve it.” - Shakur Stevenson

Well, that's going to be hard because I thought Stevenson said he did not want to fight Herring, since they're close friends? Herring would make the most sense. I would love to see Stevenson vs. Tevin Farmer or Chris Colbert! In fact, Stevenson vs. Colbert would be lovely for Wilder vs. Fury III.

Sucks that we never got to see Stevenson vs Gary Russell. All Stevenson kept saying was "Warrington, Warrington, Warrington" and Russell calling out everybody NOT in his division. How can anybody take Russell serious calling out Tank and Broner when Shakur is sitting right in his division but he won't do all that yapping about him and vise versa. Good fight that qe should've gotten.
