Jack Johnson knew how to hit and not get hit, the modern heavyweight champion uppercuts himself.

some people back in the day had just as much if not more talent than todays crop but talent needs to be nurtured and developed and trained, fact is most if not all talented athletes nowadays dont go anywhere near boxing at all so yeah the talented guys back then could well have been the real talented guys as options were much less for them

there would undoubtedly be a lot of great fighters from those sports and football soccer has a lot of great athletes too, if u are good at sports naturally thats just where u end up, its not an opinion its a fact, u dont agree?

1956 vs 2012 gold medal vaults.

Not apples to apples, but the point is athletes get better over time. Comparing a fighter from 100 years ago to a modern one is ******.

              Ofc...he is 1900s boxer

But i think 1940s to current era boxing doesn't change much in term of boxing skills like guard, stance, style, punching

If Johnson was around in this era he's got modern training and nutrition knowledge so he'd be an even better boxer than he was before. Doing a hypothetical from one era to another is tricky because boxing knowledge which has been accumulated over the years through studying the careers of iconic boxers like Johnson and Ali, is partly the reason today's fighters are what they are.

The coaches of today's boxers learned to coach partly by studying careers of other fighters. Remove Johnson from the equation, remove Ali from the equation, then Tyson Fury might not even exist as a pro boxer, he may instead be a plumber fixing a pipe in a Shepton Mallet farmhouse.

Mike Tyson might never have boxed if you remove Rocky Marciano from the equation. Remove Prince Naseem Hamed, half of today's boxers might never have laced up a pair of gloves!

You see casuals saying Tyson could beat Joshua, Wilder, Fury in one round or even that he could beat them TODAY.

same level of ridiculous to the crew saying Johnson or Dempsey would be champ today

These guys wouldn't beat a Usyk who was observing the cruiserweight limit, in fact they'd get stood on their heads.
Agree with jack johnson he's 1900s era

But i think prime lennox lewis would beat tyson fury tho

between 1990s and current era Boxing does not change much ( maybe sport science idk)

He was the best of his day. The world had a much smaller population then and boxers did not make much money even as heavyweight champion so there was little competition. Big money brings in talent and the big money was not there back then. Jack Dempsey was the start of big money in heavyweight boxing. As the film showed boxers could hold and hit legally and the ref never broke up a clinch. It was sort of like a ufc fight. It's obvious Johnson did not have the speed or skill to beat Ali or even give him a hard fight. Johnson does deserve respect for being the best of his time but those old timers could not beat a top modern boxer.
