I was watching an over hyped prima dona fighting a full time landscaper part time fighter who had 2 weeks to train for the rematch and didn't have a fight the past year...so yea, I'd call that shameful Cuban performance who probably would have lost again to Adan if the playing field was training & activity equal...for sure by KO this time!

Ha ha, and the chess? damn. Made it a kinda target to get to within 100pts of you before I challenged, and I almost did - got up to just under 1600 at 10mins before one of my cyclical slumps... and now I'm hanging out at around 1400 or so. Weird how it happens in like that, kiinda getting streaks of good form, and I'm never quite sure whether that's just a chaos thing (like the way completely random games of chance tend to produce runs given enough repetitions) or whther it's something in my play or cos I had an extra beer or something.

One thing for sure though, you're right about the study, I know full well I'm pretty much at my ceiling unless I put the work in, there's only so far you can get on intuition and native pattern recognition, specially when you're getting to the kinda age where you're brain's only gonna get slower... question of priorities I guess... fight that lockdown waistline with the kettlebells or wrestle with the variations of the King's Gambit?

Been a while since I played with the tactics puzzles though, maybe I should get back on it, kinda enjoy those anyways.
I used to play a lot. Even in high school all the way to college (back in Cuba) here I joined a website and play for about three years. Haven't play for the last 7 years. I miss the game though.

Yeah, I’m not sure about Ramirez’s potential. Truth is, we never really know about anyone. It’s a long wait in boxing.

I go through the cycles, too, especially at blitz. So many blunders when you’re not feeling it on a particular day. If you haven’t got the time or inclination for study, do the puzzles every day. Goes a long way. But don’t forget positional play!

Never too late to get back to it, man. I played through school occasionally up to county level, but then barely touched it for maybe 25 years... my lifestyle at the time rarely brought me into contact with other players and I only started playing much again in the last 3 - 4 years or so. I joined the local Chess club for face to face games but there's an unfortunate clash with my BJJ so I don't often get in (had the same problem at school FWIW with chess meets clashing with other sports matches), but I'm on Chess.com all the damn time. There's a few other dudes on here play there too... your compatriot (I presume) Cu****uy above, ShoulderRoll, myself, one or two others have mentioned it.

You feel like a game anytime just look me up: toppa72. I mainly play ten minute games but my old ass brain might work better at the slower paced 30 minute or even daily games... whatever suits you best.

And whilst we're on the subject of games did you ever give the Pick Em a look over? Weekly(ish) prediction league you'll see pinned at the top of the front page on NSB? I'm always on the lookout for new players and it doesn't matter if you drop in and out, mainly a bit of fun anyways... see what you think..

He will be another boring Cuban fighter. These Cubans should represent the Latin community, or the Cuban-Americans or the Cubans from Miami because they definitely don´t represent the country of Cuba. He doesn´t exist there anymore.

Most Cuban's, 95% don't appreciate this type of revenge victory, winning over a full time landscaper who had 2 weeks notice to train for rematch without a fight in a year's time. Cuban's have much more respect for a fighter on social security (Oritz) fighting for HW titles...

Ramirez still is not fully confident in the pro ranks. He has those amateur tendencies still where he wants to sit back and counter instead of trying to hurt his opponent. He had Lopez on the ropes numerous of times but just didn't let his hands go. Obviously he has improved since his pro debut but far from a finished product. People forget, but he had some uneven performances after winning gold in 2016. Dude was already sort of slipping and there were rumors that he wasn't taking boxing all that serious. Well, he better change that if he wants to make a name for himself in the pro ranks. All he needed to do was avenge this loss to gain some confidence and hopefully next performance will be better. I still wouldn't give up on him just yet.
