they missing the point. First time around he was a no good because he loss to a c class fighter. Now he whooped his a$$ and he still no good. Seems to me they just don't like the kid. No matter what he does, is not going to be enough.Comment

Ramirez could have gone on and skipped over Gonzalez for a second fight but he wanted to prove the first fight was a fluke and did just that. I was a fan from the Olympics and now I look forward to seeing him rise up the rankings. But you're right, people are going to hate no matter what he does. Frank Sanchez is another guy to keep an eye on. He is a slick, fast boxer, unlike so many slow ponderous heavyweights on the scene. Frank is a really good guy and owns a restaurant so he has other talents as well.Comment

Can only assume it was nerves on something, pro debut, high expectations on him. It's not a good look but maybe forgivable. If he'd lost again though it would have been end of the road I reckon.
I thought Robeisy was gonna cruise to victory this time around but it would still have been nice to see him shoot for something a little more decisive.
On a side note: finally got my blitz rating up past 1700 a couple of days ago. First time in months. My standard should be around 1750. Been studying some games and doing tactics puzzles again, and it shows. Improvement comes from a combination of study and practice. Look me up some time. I generally play 3 minute games, but occasionally I’ll do 30 minutes.Comment

I’ve been watching Robeisy since his first Olympic medal, through the WSB and now. Still not sure what his pro future might look like, but I like much of what I saw on Thursday. Too bad he’s such a small guy. Salas says he might only go as high as 130. I’d love to see him at 135, but he might never make it there.Comment

When watching that first fight, Ramirez definitely appeared out of sorts. One has to believe he was nervous at his debut, but there was more. Robeisy probably didn’t train right. Many people simply don’t understand the adjustment these Cuban athletes have to undergo. It can really throw you off your game. Now with Ismael Salas, who’s trained many champions, including Gamboa, Ramirez has started to look like something. Night and day from his debut.

Ha ha, and the chess? damn. Made it a kinda target to get to within 100pts of you before I challenged, and I almost did - got up to just under 1600 at 10mins before one of my cyclical slumps... and now I'm hanging out at around 1400 or so. Weird how it happens in like that, kiinda getting streaks of good form, and I'm never quite sure whether that's just a chaos thing (like the way completely random games of chance tend to produce runs given enough repetitions) or whther it's something in my play or cos I had an extra beer or something.
One thing for sure though, you're right about the study, I know full well I'm pretty much at my ceiling unless I put the work in, there's only so far you can get on intuition and native pattern recognition, specially when you're getting to the kinda age where you're brain's only gonna get slower... question of priorities I guess... fight that lockdown waistline with the kettlebells or wrestle with the variations of the King's Gambit?
Been a while since I played with the tactics puzzles though, maybe I should get back on it, kinda enjoy those anyways.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 07-03-2020, 02:11 PM.Comment

Because of home country politics - so few of the Cubans get to show how great they are in the Pro's so it is nice to appreciate the handful of ones that make it because they have already paid their dues just to be able to get to the USA and fight their way up the rankings. And Frank Sanchez is among my favorites for many reasons.Comment
