  • Comments Thread For: Gvozdyk Speaks on Retirement, Beterbiev Loss, Stevenson Win, Teddy Atlas

By Dan Rafael - There was no news conference, no statement issued by promoter Top Rank and not so much as a tweet or Instagram post from the fighter. Instead, there were only brief comments from manager Egis Klimas earlier this month that former light heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk had retired from boxing. At age 33 and having lost his...

He needs to take some time off and work with Anatoly Lomachenko again, he is clearly the 2nd best LHW and he could definitely beat Beterbiev if he makes some adjustments. He put up an amazing fight before Beterbiev took over.

Beterbiev beats everyone except Canelo, no doubt.

Its annoying Ward retired with Gvozdyk and Bivol becoming mandatories or unification options soon. Gvozyk was a lot like Kovalev but taller, way longer arms, physically stronger, better chin, and way better stamina. Better left hook, better straight right, more movement and head movement, better guard, better inside. Good luck to Ward getting inside and mauling someone with that much more range control outside to prevent the entry, and that much more physical strength and inside competence to prevent Ward capitalizing the few times he would be able to succeed in the entry.

Ward retired before fighting anyone at the top level both prime and with stylistic advantages, whether that be Stevenson, Gvozdyk, Bivol, or Beterbiev, or even Dirrell and Bute down at 168. It would be cool to see Gvozdyk vs Ward in their comeback fights.

Gvozdyk beats Ward for one belt, Beterbiev beats Bivol to unify the other then, then Beterbiev-Gvozdyk rematch for undisputed. Then Golovkin moves up to 175 to face Beterbiev for all 4 LHW belts in the "drama show" of 40 year olds but still pretty darn good pressure boxer-puncher style performers of the era.

Do you seriously think he'd beat Bivol if he couldn't beat basic Beterbiev?

Beteriev will beat Bivol EASY lol. And hes not basic at all, hes one of most complex out there. Only Canelo beats Beterbiev 175 and below.

                  Yeah, right.

This year: no fights, I'm out of here, have better things to do.

Next year: Gvodzyk is back, "training in beast mode".

Gvozdyk acts a nice guy, but this move is puss-e. You’ve got an influx of fighters, Champs, staying busy grinding, aiming for world title shots or unifications, yet Gvozdyk is complaining to “start over” because of the Pandemic or that Beterbiev has to do his mando first... pfff

Dude, ALL FIGHTERS RESET. I think Beterbiev shook the shet out of Gvozdyk to be honest.

Imagine PBC fans or Thurman having said, Keith doesn’t need Pac or Spence because he unified and beat Porter and Garcia... “so his long layoff is fine and he can do whatever he please to do.” Instead Thurman had a swarm of haters from all angles YET STILL FOUGHT with injuries and a long layoff... but Gvozdyk gets empathy?

Sorry but this guy got no heart. By the time he’d get a shot at a title somebody gotta see him or he would fight Beterbiev again with the money available. Beterbiev will have turned 2 years or less older, so why Gvozdyk is betchin about current circumstances is just soft ass shet.

If he said the Stevenson aftermath was too much to bare I’d give him that.
