Roy vs Collins Calzaghi Eubanks

Nigel Benn was doing abit better in the second fight, before he went over on his ankle 'I think Benn was kind of too damaged from previous fights before he fought Collins' Nigel Benn seemed empty on the inside.Yeah I thought that was fair line of questioning from Eubank, and Collins took it badly. Touched a nerve maybe. Collins seems up himself, walking off like that, how petty. I also thought Eubank's summation of his fights with Collins was spot on, that Collins beat him through sheer willpower more than anything else, and again Collins took it sort of personally
The angle with Freddie King is interesting, I've never heard it mentioned much. Maybe I'm wrong on this but I think Freddie worked some of Eubank's fights before he teamed up with Collins? Anyway, without Freddie, Collins wouldn't have stood a chance. When Collins is talking about planning being the deciding factor, he's talking about Freddie's planning, not his own. But he misses the point, which is that the plan only worked because Collins is such a stubborn, bloody-minded kind of guy, ready to stick in there for three minutes of every round. I tend to agree with Eubank when he says that Collins is not a better boxer than him. Same goes for Benn vis-a-vis Collins. Which sounds ridiculous on the face of it, but there we are. I guess if I was Collins, having beaten both Benn and Eubank but consistently rated lower than them, I'd be pissed off too
Steve Collins win over Chris Eubank was a great win 'He beat Eubank at his best'. Although it did seem like Eubank was fighting within himself during the second fight If I recall correctly etc
Nice interviews: Steve Collins Part 1 of 5.
Chris Eubank.

Collins was scummy when he claimed he was hypnotised to not feel Eubanks punches, with it being days after McClellan's injuries and playing on the Watson tragedy in Eubank's mind. You see when he floors Steve at the start of the 10th, he doesn't go in for the finish after and just showboats....Nigel Benn was doing abit better in the second fight, before he went over on his ankle 'I think Benn was kind of too damaged from previous fights before he fought Collins' Nigel Benn seemed empty on the inside.

Yes who knows how that affects a fighter, this is real life not a computer game like Mortal combat. Every fighter that has seriously injured a opponents has been affected 'Barry Mcguigan, Ray Mancini, Nigel Benn etc'.Collins was scummy when he claimed he was hypnotised to not feel Eubanks punches, with it being days after McClellan's injuries and playing on the Watson tragedy in Eubank's mind. I saw the same thing with Chris Eubank vs Joe Calzaghe he had Calzaghe out in the last round 'And just proceeded to let him lean on him until the bell rang' Calzaghe was just falling and leaning on him etcComment

Exactly, one step back and one right uppercut and Calzaghe would've been out and Eubank would've won.Yes who knows how that affects a fighter, this is real life not a computer game like Mortal combat. Emile Griffith was clearly affected after killing Paret.Comment

He also let Carl Thompson off the hook three or four times in their first fight. It was as if Chris was trying to prove a point, not finishing Calzaghe and Thompson and staying the full 12 to gain the lasting respect he always craved.
He hinted he would of probably beaten Roy Jones if they went to war in there, because we know who had the stronger chin by landslide, but he knew both of them would never be the same after so why would both or either go out of their ways to make it happen!
Maybe Roy had a death wish but Chris didn't. He didn't want to die in the ring.Last edited by coghaugen; 06-28-2020, 08:11 AM.Comment

Chris Eubank and James Toney, probably the most durable fighters from the 90's 'Most durable middle-weight fighters of all time'. Chris Eubank plays himself down, but due to his toughness/awkward fighting style and big punch 'The man would be trouble for any super-middleweight'.He also let Carl Thompson off the hook three or four times in their first fight. It was as if Chris was trying to prove a point, not finishing Calzaghe and Thompson and staying the full 12 to gain the lasting respect he always craved.
