Andrew Moloney's first fight in the United States came at a heavy price, although it could have been so much worse. The 29-year old from Australia saw his American dream end with his first loss, the end of his title reign and a trip to the hospital after being outpointed by Joshua Franco in their ESPN-televised headliner Tuesday evening at MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Thank goodness it looks like he will be fine. Watching the fight live, you could see it was a close fight as far as rounds go but Franco was doing so much more damage. Towards the later rounds, it kind of reminded me of a slightly less violent Dadashev/Matias fight; the style matchup, the one sided punishment in a close fight, etc.

Maloney a tough dude, he rallied in that final round despite the damage he had taken. Stuff like this reminds me how brutal this sport is and why we should never question a fighter's heart or courage while sitting on our couches or behind our laptops.

Yeah man a lot of people aren't giving Moloney credit but that guy showed championship mettle and had no quit even with two busted eardrums. His corner should have stopped it going into the 12th but he actually put up a better 12th round than I expected and it was still a good fight not completely 1 sided Franco just took over in the championship rounds and looked much fresher and got the much deserved win.

Its a dark place at the end of a beating with many rounds to go, the power game in the modern fighters is so much more damaging today, Franco has that chopping power that just accumulates to a beating, a couple of bodyshots really hurt Maloney and he seemed to wilt a little after them.

Was a good fight the Aussie just didnt have enough power to keep Franco off glad he is ok .
