Canelo is significantly more popular than Floyd ever was. So was/is Pac. Being more popular isn’t going to be an issue. Floyd isnt actually popular. Floyd will never be to America what Canelo and Pac are to their countries.

Being as economically successful is a whole different story. Floyd was never popular. Floyd is the almost literal *opposite* of popular to such an extent that it made him wildly successful. He took “cherry picking” and owned it. He never shied away from saying he was first and foremost a PRIZE fighter and if it made him money it made sense. It’s not his fault Shane wasnt ten years younger, or Oscar, or Pac, or that he came in at the edge of an era or got a close decision against JLC, etc.

Floyd was in the right place at the right time where there were some beloved guys in their twilights he was able to catapult his name off of by using his bonafide genius skill.

Floyd is more of a troll that couldnt be stopped. His tactics to sell fight always went the opposite way. Nobody watched his fights because they believed his ass that he was going to KO everyone and beat them up.

If Floyd was a product, everyone purchased it NOT for its intended use. Everyone was paying in the hopes this was the last time they’d ever have to see him.

Floyd woulda never recovered from a loss, and he knew that. Unfortunately for everyone, Floyd was legitimately an atg type talent and his negative (lack of charisma and popularity, etc) aspect somehow just voltron’ed into some intense anti-Floyd feelings.

Floyd was boxing’s Trump to a lot of people lmao and the more money he got, the worse people felt.

The amount of hate the “Pac fans” had for him was honestly like a phenomenon.

Let’s be honest, everyone who knows who Floyd is knows who Canelo and Pac are. But only one of the three is chillin on hundreds upon hundreds of millions of dollars.

Canelo may surpass him money wise since he’s 29, but Canelo has been fighting top guys a loong time now. He may need to pull a Floyd and briefly retire and let someone build for a couple years, especially after this pandemic. He’s too good for guys his size, if he keeps fighting and winning, he’ll be looked at more favorably as a talent than Floyd because people actually like the dude and...if youre not going to speak English, being a spanish speaking Mexican is fine. Hell, you almost DONT want to speak English too often if youre a mexican boxing hero.

    He’ll be fine.

but the problem is, Canelo cant afford to become a cherrypicker in the last 10 years of his career like Floyd did. Post Hatton Floyd is the definition of cherrypicking 101

Floyd's "0" and the Pacquiao fight that he avoided, was what kept the fans interest on post-Hatton Floyd, it wasn't his boring fights or matches against complete no hopers like Guerrero or bloated midget Marquez

but Canelo doesn't have a "0" or a similar rivalry to justify the big paydays, so ginger will need to keep fighting tough opponents if he wants the big paydays, unlike Floyd who got away with beating bums and past prime fighters. Ginger's body probably won't last that long.
lmfao every Canelo fight has been a cherry pick. every big fight has an asterisk beside it for a catchweight or a hydration clause.

Canelo will never be as popular as Floyd, at least in the US. Going to DAZN was the biggest mistake he ever made. Sure he made big money but he was going to make big money regardless. He’s lost so much shine since moving to DAZN. ESPN used to set up shop in Vegas and run their shows out there the week of his fights. Now he can’t even get a segment on Sportscenter the day of his fights. DAZN’s whole marketing plan is f@cked and the sad part is he was the biggest star in boxing when they signed him.
