  • What really is the point of Valuev-Barrett?

Barrett seems to be satisfied being Don King's personal fall guy for all occasions, unless he's genuinely earning these title shots, and if so, how so?

Okay, it's just a fight to introduce Nicolai to the US audience (October 7th) but where's any sense of competition?

Sure, Barrett can be slick, though his career highs are few - managing to rock the Rock after 12 sophoric rounds in, IMO, the worst heavyweight competition of all time; and arguably being robbed against Joe Mesi.

In Barrett's favour he's only been stopped once, and that's against the world class Little Klit, who possesses greater power than the relatively moderate-hitting Valuev. But Valuev will have 7" of reach, 9" of height and around 100lbs of weight in advantage. Lamb to the slaughter?

Yeah what is the point, if Barrett does win we already know he can't compete with any of the other champions. He was murdered by Wlad, and schooled by Rahman. Sergie or Brewster would kill him. This is pretty bad.

But i'm still pulling for him.

What's the point? The point of Valuev fighing seemingly undeserving opponents is, that King wants him to run up his record to 48-0, 49-0, 50-0? so he can cash in on a huge ppv fight which could possibly break Marciano's record.

He can do this by fighting opponents who don't pose a considerable risk, hence "what the heck" and barrett.

If Valuev had any credability then he'd be fighting contenders like Brock, Ruiz, Peter, or other titlists(Wlad and company).

#1. It IS a showcase to introduce Valuev to the American public...and if he stopps Barrett, who is usually pretty durable, wah-lah.

        &

#2. It more or less secure that Valuev will gain another win and move towards the magic 49-0. Valuev will be in a super-fight on his 49th nigh as a pro.....guaranteed. King smells money.

how many times do i have to say this?

Marciano's record is 49 consecutive victories. Valuev has one No Decision. he still has about a dozen more victories to match that!

The point is to test the patience of boxing fans to see how much they will really endure. How is Barrett in a title fight?

That no decision will equal Barry Bonds alleged substance abuse in the official record books, though.....or, at the very least, from a hype perspective. It will be said, whether it is true or not.

I counted the Interim title fight when he ran along the ropes for 11 rounds against Rahman before rocking him in the last minute or so of a tedious bout.

As for the NC bit, then this also applies to Hopkins's 20 defences...

                  duh, no it wont.

this whole record is predicated on CONSECUTIVE VICTORIES. valuev has a no decision. that is not a victory and that had to reset his whole winning streak all over again.

How much you want to bet that record isn't the selling point of Valuev's potential 49th victory?
