Why did Floyd vs Mcgregor do so many PPV buys when everyone knew Conor couldn't win?

Because there’s boxing matches and there’s cultural events.

That event attracted millions of people who don’t even follow boxing.

I can’t even tell you how many people asked me what I thought about that fight. Most of them almost never watch boxing.

When that happened, it also became clear to me that 99% of them didn’t understand that boxing isn’t a bar fight. So I’m sure most people who bought it actually thought it could be competitive.

Plus it was a fight between the two biggest names in combat sports and big characters that divide opinion. They were the only two true crossover names in combat sports, on a worldwide scale,

At the end of the day, boxing and MMA has a captured audience that buy PPV but it’s not that huge, to do above even 1 million buys, you’re really relying on people that don’t generally watch the sport much, so don’t know anything different, never mind 4 million.

You probably had about less than 1 million people that bought it that Knew Floyd was going to win and the rest would be clueless about how these sports work.

because some people thought that mcgregor had the power early on to actually hurt floyd, everyone knew he gassed after 10 mins or so, mcgregor talked a good fight too

Because it’s not just the boxing fans that bought the fight. Also the UFC fans and they’re the ones who bought the hype and thought Mcgreggor has a chance. This also showed that there also was a huge fanbase from the other sport. Plus UK itself will always buy the hype, whether boxing fans or not, if their guy is part of a big event. That also shows how supportive they are with their guy.

I was at a fight party with a bunch of UFC heads and no problem taking their money betting on a Floyd stoppage.

Everyone knew conor couldn’t win? Actually a ridiculous amount of people though conor could win. Mostly causal fans, which are the people that buy big PPVs. They thought conor had some next level striking apparently. Even people i know that actually watched combat sports thought conor could win. It was baffling.
