Comments Thread For: Team Usyk Prepared To Stand Firm On Mandatory Status In Lieu Of Fury-Joshua Talks

With every mention of a potential heavyweight superfight between British behemoths Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, comes the exclusion of at least one contender who continues to serve as a roadblock. Oleksandr Usyk continues to wait his turn in line for a guaranteed shot at the World Boxing Organization (WBO) heavyweight title. It was a status claimed from the moment the unbeaten Ukrainian southpaw abandoned his lineal cruiserweight championship reign-where he earned the designation as WBO "Super" champion-to campaign in boxing's most storied division.

Pay Pulev to step aside no one wants to see that anyway. Why is it in boxing that the **** no one wants to see always has to take precedence to the **** people want to see.

Usyk and Pulev are both mandatories, so it's a tie. But Usyk is a former cruiserweight undisputed. He's a top contender at heavyweight. Pulev is past prime, never good to begin with, not even a contender. He's a fringe gatekeeper. Looked awful his last outing, and was already knocked out easily by an old Klitschko.

Usyk earned his mandatory shot. Pulev was given it by boxing politics. So if there's only time for one of them to fight AJ, it should be Usyk, case closed. No one wants to see Pulev. Anyone who buys a ticket to AJ vs Pulev doesn't care about their own time or money in my opinion.

Usyk beat about 100x as good opponents as Pulev to become mando.

Also who did Wilder beat to become mando to Bermane Stiverne?

So the issue isn't about who should AJ fight first, Usyk or Fury. He should fight both assuming he gets past the first one. The issue is Pulev. That fight simply should not happen. Pulev should retire. Who actually cares about watching that fight, at least in the UK or the US? Maybe in Bulgaria, but nowhere else. No one wants to see AJ vs Pulev that's ridiculous. Pulev should have retired after he couldnt win 5 seconds of a round vs Klitschko.

I'm all for Usyk / AJ happening first.

I favor Usyk and if he beats AJ, Fury vs Usyk will be the biggest fight in boxing.

Arum and Fish Eyes run WBO and Usyk might end up waiting longer than Dillian Whyte.

He needs to earn his stripes at heavyweight before acting entitled.

No one cares about Usyk - he probably has 100 fans and 90 are Ukrainians.

Because promoters are doing their job and building hype for their fighters so in turn the fans pay good money to watch them. The more we demand certain fights to be made, the more that fight can "marinate" so the promoters make more money.

AJ was almost knocked out by an older Klitschko so........

Usyk may have earned in your eyes the shot but there are plenty that can argue that he is still untested and proven in the HW division. True most do not want to see Pulev but if someone wants to pay to see AJ beat Pulev down then that is their choice. They worked for their money they should be allowed to spend it how they want.

Why not have Usyk fight Pulev then fight AJ in between the AJ/Fury rematch? Is Usyk only looking for the belt or is he looking to fight the best?

Usyk is way better than likes of Pulev, Whyte, Psrker, Ortiz etc. He deserves a shot.
