The fight against Manny was the 2nd tune up fight plus a bonus payday. 2019 was his get-back year. He never considered him a real challenge. Real match-ups were supposed to be against Crawford and Spence.Comment

There are excuses and then there is admitting you screwed up. Thurman here is doing the latter. I agree with your admonishment about starting a sentence with 'I'm not making excuses' and then going on to make an excuse -- but at the same time, he doesn't do that.I think fighters should just admit the other guy was better regardless of what went wrong leading up to the fight or while in the fight. And don’t start a sentence with, “I’m not making excuses,” but then you go on to say a bunch of excuses or create excuses months later when someone asks you a about the fight or during an interview. It comes off like sour g****s. I guess it’s pride or ego for these guys when they lose. But you come off better when you just admit the other guy was better.
He is effectively saying: I did this thing, it was ******, and I'm kicking myself over it. I can completely understand that. He is admitting culpability. He is not saying some external factor happened to him beyond his control and otherwise he'd have won.
I have no problem with a fighter owning up to a fault.Comment

I like Thurman but it goes both ways, Thurman was lucky to get a 40 years old Pac instead of a 35 years old version.Last edited by Bluebird; 06-07-2020, 06:12 AM.Comment
