Whatever helps Hatton sleep at night. But he was what he was, a good fighter with an insane following but not good enough to beat the elite of his time. Wouldn't matter who was the ref where they fought or what lifestyle he led.

Yeah, Hatton probably would have hugged any fighter on earth to death that night.

That was one ugly fight for sure.

Ricky Hatton was great when he fought Kostya Tszyu no doubt about it. Mayweather was also at his peak in 2005 (watch the Gatti fight). Floyd would’ve beat him on any night. It’s kinda sad that after all these years he’s still making excuses for why he lost to TBE. It’s okay, everyone else lost too. As much as we love Hatton in the UK we can also call a spade a spade and Floyd is just the best. Don’t make excuses. You fought the best of your era and a lot of people (including me) consider him the best ever. You put up a good fight but came up short. Accept it and give him his props. No shame in that at all. I’m tired of all the excuses.

That version would have performed better against Floyd but at best he would have equalled a Maidana performance, which Floyd won easily 8 to 4.
Manny would have starched him in 6 rds in a barn burner.
Too much drinking and partying ruined him. ****** man.

And to all you casuals saying Joe Cortez didn’t let him fight his fight. The last time I checked this sport was called boxing, not grabbing, holding and hitting or wrestling. Cortez did his job. Most of the fight was actually fought up close and Floyd just beat him at his own game. Plain and simple he was too good. Too sharp, too smart, too quick, too good defensively. Even up close Ricky barely got anything done. He was clearly losing the fight on the scorecards when he got knocked out. Accept it and move on. It’s like people saying Conor McGregor would’ve won if he could kick Floyd, lol. You can make up an “if” for anything you want but the sport is called BOXING not holding and hitting. Hatton just got outclassed, and I say that as someone thats from the same country. He needs to get over it and give TBE his just due.

I'm sure Hatton did feel unbeatable that night, however I also remember the look on his face as he watched Floyd dismantle Arturo Gatti that same year.

                  First post

Hatton said he could have beat Mayweather that night. Mayweather fought the same month Hatton fought Tszyu. Pretty Boy’s combinations were unreal on the night vs Gatti. It would have been worse than the 2007 clinic.

Now the drugs don’t work, they just make you worse.

On another note I saw an interview with Hatton recently and he looks in bad shape. Not just physically, but he looks about 50. Sad to see but clearly poor lifestyle choices and drugs/alcohol have taken their toll on him. Depression etc is no joke and I hope he has people around him that help him with that. I know it’s especially hard for fighters once they retire.

Contrast and compare Hatton with Mayweather though. Floyd looks at least 10-15 years younger. Crazy to think Ricky is actually younger. That’s what being drug/alcohol free and staying in great shape can do for you. Even if you are a bit out of shape - as long as you have a somewhat healthy diet and avoid drugs/alcohol that’s going to preserve your life for much longer than those who abuse their body. Not to mention you’ll get way more done and feel so much better.
