Not the most glamorous of fights but could be a bit of a war IMO.

Alvarez and Smith — along with Umar Salamov and Maxim Vlasov — will fight to see who will match up for the WBO light heavyweight title.

Be a fun one, this. Smith might not be the most skilled but he's strong and game. Gotta favour Eleider as the more skilled of the pair but I could easily see Smith running him over like he did to Hart.

A win that looks like that would require a Hart level mental breakdown. Hart clearly held Hopkins in such high regard that he viewed Smith as a killer of gods. Psyched himself out of the fight when in reality he could have just easily outboxed Smith had he stuck to a decent game plan.
I figure this fight might look a bit more like what Hart - Smith should have looked like.

Yeah... whilst I saw the possibility of an upset I didn't actually imagine it would happen in that fight. Eleider should be able to comfortably pick him apart, but I wouldn't right Smith off either. Dude hits like a trolley bus... shame he got the footwork of one too.

It remains doubtful that the light heavyweight title left behind by Saul Canelo' Alvarez will be filled by year's end. For the first time in more than five months, though, a major first step has been taken towards filling that void. In a development first reported by The Athletic's Mike Coppinger, light heavyweights Eleider Alvarez and Joe Smith Jr. have agreed to terms for a title elimination bout that was ordered more than three months ago. A tentative date is in place for July 16, with the bout to take place at the MGM Grand Convention Center in Las Vegas.

I think Alvarez may put Joe to sleep, this ought to be a pretty interesting fight until then.

Eleider is more than capable of out boxing Smith
                  Maybe even taking him out
This will be a great fight imo
Smith can be dangerous at all times

Good fight. These are the kind of fights that I think should be on big event undercards. It's a crossroads battle between two warriors who have probably seen their best days, but are gonna give their all to get another crack at the big time.

I would lean toward Alvarez outboxing him as Smith as heart.
