If Kovalev took a “Dive” for Canelo, did Canelo take a dive for Mayweather?

In those times Oscar was hitting lines telepathically too. You ask why? More money for blow. Fight should’ve been at 154. Remember Floyd proves with Marquez that 2lbs means a lot...Comment

Nobody questions the Kovalev KO. That was very real. People question why Kovalev wasnt sitting on his punches earlier in the fight. He threw no more than 25 serious right hands in the entire fight.Yes. Let's take a young, popular, undefeated superstar who is odds on to become one of boxing's most lucrative fighters ever. Let's take his biggest opportunity, a fight that could give him the ability to practically turn water into liquid gold. Let's take that fight and throw it, for a fighter in his late 30's who barely competes anymore. Seems legit.
And as for Kovalev. Why hold onto a championship and make decent money validating your claim as one of the best fighters of your era when you can lose your belt, a large chunk of your legacy and practically all of your future earning power for one big payday. Also you are doing it while clearly taking a legit, flush shot to the jaw. I know that's how i like to spend my saturdays..
This all seems like good business as well as just bright in general.
Personally I think Kova was over trained. I think he was dead at the weigh in from his battle against Yarde in August. Fight time came and Kovalev had his speed but was sapped of power. Canelos elusiveness and body work only worsened that.
But I cant take anything away from Canelo. The funny thing is he won so easily and without any major adversity that everyone is su****ious including myself. Terrific win by Canelo against a guy who split with Ward (undefeated SMW/LHW), split with Eleider Alvarez (undefeated LHW), and KOd a game Yarde (undefeated LHW). That's a serious lineup for an aging LHW whose a 1st ballot HOFer.Comment
