Because Wilder don't know how to box at all. He was spoon fed bums so long he never learned anything. Fury came along and exposed Wilder, he will not recover mentally from this, he is done. One last pay day and it's back to living in his lady's shadow.

fury was chosen when joshua fell through because a big fight was needed asap to justify the slots/marketing dollars wilder was being given and recoup what was already spent before an upset occurred. only one heavyweight fit the bill.

goossen is vying for a training position. he’s too smart not to know that fury has always known how to fight coming forward, how to fight on the inside. he even did it against wallin. wilder doesn’t seem humble enough to make the right changes but you never know.
Yes -- we saw Fury laying it on against Wallin when he knew the fight could be stopped for the cut at any time. Kronk style is more of a change of strategy for Fury than learning new techniques.

Wilder might already know how to fight inside in a rudimentary way, but it's a tough ask to bring those skills up to speed in a few months so that they can be relied on in an elite matchup.

I actually feel it would be a mistake for the one-trick pony to try and add more tricks at this late stage of his career. He needs to come in lighter and keep the fight at distance, but it is a tough matchup because of Fury's longer reach and quick reflexes. Big question mark if his lack of gas in the last fight is a permanent thing because of age.

Hopefully Fury smashes him again as Wilder wanted to fluke his way to being undefeated whilst fighting no one. The fact that he never unified, never beat any other champion during his reign says it all for me. He could have beaten Parker, Martin or even fight Klitschko for the WBA vacant belt, but he never wanted to take any risk. At 35 it’s only going to go downhill for him especially with the injuries, which makes his decisions to turn down multiple deals from Whyte and Joshua look dumb now.
Thanks Ray and yes you definitely get the impression he'll have his regrets. It will be a long old road back from a similar beating and they'll be no shortage of contenders wanting his scalp believing (rightly or wrongly) they can also do to him what Fury did.

It's amazing that after just 1 loss he almost finds himself in the 'last chance saloon.' I hope he's mentally stronger than that as there's definitely room in the division for a fighter that brings the kind of drama Wilder does.

Do you actually watch that American Dad shi_t show? What a garbage program. As if Family Guy wasn't unoriginal enough, someone thought the world needed a spin off of a rip off show.

Seth McFarlane sucks. Nothing he creates will ever come close to reaching the level of The Simpsons or even South Park.

Yes this is off topic but I saw that gross cartoon image and had to say something. Family Guy - funny for 2 seasons and McFarlane ran out of ideas. What a creative guy.

The faults in Goosen's argument are obvious. He's just a PBC Stooge who is only saying this because he gets paid to say good things about Haymon fighters.

You've hit the nail on the head. Fury was 'chosen.' He represented the largest and lowest hanging fruit on the tree (biggest reward/lowest risk). He blew up to 28 stone binging on drugs, alcohol and fast food. He then had 2 (let's be honest) garbage fights that must have raised even Wilders eyebrows!

Given what Fury had put his mind and body through and the fact he's never been looked upon as a puncher throughout his entire career he represented the ideal opponent for Wilder at the time.

It was Wilder's opportunity to appease a number of invested interests and fans by taking on and defeating the 'lineal' champion. He was already playing down the fact that Fury was removed from his peak and like Lennox Lewis did with the other Tyson he fully intended on passing it off as if he was dealing with a prime version.

Remember all that Wilder talk about how he wanted no excuses from Fury or his camp after? It was to cement that point, that he beat a prime Tyson Fury. Oh the irony of the excuses in the aftermath! This is why I said it was the very definition of a cherry pick gone wrong.

As for his team, the best thing they did that night was pull him out and save him for another day, and they couldn't even agree about that, some team...

"Look, I’m gonna go out and try to knock him out early. I feel like with my new trainer I never knew anything about boxing before. I’ve really learned a lot in just one camp. I feel like I’m punching with my knuckles more.’ The whole rundown. And he credited it to one camp. Remember, the key line here is, ‘I feel I really didn’t know how to fight until I got with ‘Sugar Hill."

That was also Freddie Roach's opinion right after the first fight.

If you ever get a chance, check out McFarlanes music on line. It's all instrumentals, no vocals. I believe he may have scored a few movies. By all measurements, all, an absolutely brilliant piece of work. Weird as hell but most geniuses are.
