Because Fury has a higher boxing IQ, He has been fighting since he was a child, he was born into it like Mayweather was....And for Wilder is mentality was "I only need to be great for 2 seconds" Lol.
It is funny.
I remember Mayweather saying that he couldn't look at previous performances without finding something negative.
When you look at actual boxers, they embrace criticism because it helps them grow.
Wilder got his ass beat and all you heard from him was excuses. He turned on the people in his camp. He did everything but acknowledge his limitations.
It is easy to see why he has not grown. He was too focused on the results, when he should have been focusing on his inability to box.
If Wilder wins this fight he must do so at mid range in the center of the ring by throwing a multitude of punches. Fighting with his back up against the ropes is not going to make the cut.
He has to get Fury into some exchanges or force him to fight off the back foot. Wilder won't get any leverage on his power punches by backing up.
Think of an athlete from any sport, basketball, baseball, who is of the same height and weight as Wilder. Can he be taught how to inside fight and defeat Fury?
Because that’s as likely as Wilder learning how to do it this quickly when you consider he has zero knowledge of how it is done.
Ray and Ant1979 are absolutely right. The difference in boxing IQ is just gigantic.
The funny thing is W could practice his inside game all camp, but if it looks like it's working in the fight, Fury will just take him someplace else and drown him. W just can't adjust the same way. He will be confused as soon as Fury switches up on him again.
I'm not overly convinced that injuries were the reason why he didn't get in with Josua. It wasn't like he was inactive, just risk averse. Same reason he never got in with Klitschko or even Whyte.
That title and unbeaten record obviously meant so much but now both have been ripped away in such brutal fashion I could understand him being in a dark place right now.
There's definitely a build up of wear on tear on his body as his technique struggles to support his obvious power and at 35 that's an issue. But I feel like he never really wanted to roll the dice, he didn't even try for a unification with Parker for the WBO.
He was more than happy to keep his status and '0' and carry on flopping bums. I remember him once saying in an interview that he wanted to beat Mayweather's record and retire as TBE, as if they even began to compare? This might be why he avoided fights with Klitschko, Joshua and even Whyte.
The Fury fight was the very definition of a cherry pick gone wrong and he's been out of his comfort zone badly since the first fight. He wanted to rush the return to stop any further Fury improvements and when that went wrong you get the impression he felt the writing was on the wall for him, just through his demeanor. It's even worse for him now, he's been humbled and humiliated while Fury is flying higher than ever before.
Amazingly beautiful post, agreed with everything. Including his obvious cherry pick of Fury and how that went wrong for Wilder. He indeed tried to rush Fury into the rematch too, and am glad Fury too his tune ups before going ahead with the rematch. Hopefully Fury smashes him again as Wilder wanted to fluke his way to being undefeated whilst fighting no one. The fact that he never unified, never beat any other champion during his reign says it all for me. He could have beaten Parker, Martin or even fight Klitschko for the WBA vacant belt, but he never wanted to take any risk. At 35 it’s only going to go downhill for him especially with the injuries, which makes his decisions to turn down multiple deals from Whyte and Joshua look dumb now.

He criticised anyone and everyone that didn’t see things his way, Tyson, Bowe, Paulie M, all of them are “Hating” on him. His ego even tried to put the blame of his loss on like 7 excuses now. He has been placed in this delusional state where he thinks fighting and stopping mediocre boxers or stopping his best mate in boxing (Scott) is the best thing since sliced bread.
It’s just sad that someone who had power like he does, an Olympian who actually box on his jab would now resort to trying to land one punch in a 12 round fight. You can do that against mediocre boxers like Ortiz but the higher level boxers would get up and probably smash you.
I disagree with that strategy for Wilder. It's too late in his career and his boxing IQ is limited.
He needs to work on resetting hundreds of times over which means a 120% improvement in footwork. His footwork is the worst I have ever seen in any world champion for a long time especially an athletic black guy. Sure there have been some lumbering giants from Eastern Europe but you'd normally expect an athletic black champion to have better footwork.
Forget Goossen, I'd give Floyd a call and ask for footwork drills. That said, wtf is Breland doing? That guy had superb skills as a boxer - why can't he challenge Wilder, is he too much of a yes man?
It's a conundrum. I do remember Wilder showing solid skills in Stiverne 1 - he should improve on what he had there. Plus throw more feints.
Even with all that said, if we get the Wilder of the first Fury fight then he is still very dangerous. There was something 'off' about him in the second fight.
Fury didn’t ‘learn a new game’. He’s always been able to have a row when necessary. But changes his style when he needs to. As for wilder - wilder wasn’t always such a wild fighter - he hardly scored a stoppage in the amateur but was successful and also won a bronze medal in Olympics. You don’t do that if you fight as he does now. I seen him in the gym moving well, boxing well. He just decided on power hitting. Probably went he started calling on his demon possession and saying he gets taken over by spirits when he gets in the ring and wants to kill the other guy. He’s a satanist, Fury called him out on this
