Holyfield never admitted that his head butting caused Tyson to snap in their second fight. Tyson's trainer should have probably prepared tyson for the dirty tactics in their second fight. He didn't and Tyson bite Holyfield twice out of frustration.

I agree. Holyfield beat the bully by any means necessary.Comment

It’s funny how Holyfield never addresses how Tyson must’ve felt with the top part of his head nestled in front of Mikes face. Lennox and Rahman complained as well, but to their credit they didn’t resort to biting. Holyfield, to my knowledge never addressed any of those claims either. He simply brushes it off.
Judging by earlier threads about Mike, Mike was used to having girls deplete all his energy, while Holyfield was preoccupied & obsessed training in beast mode - for him. So Mike never anticipated the cinder block approach to the equation. He thought it’d only be about letting punches fly with obviously some form of tussling, but nothing like that - in either fight.
It’s all good Holyfield had self control in his response, but I think the grandiose nature of the event didn’t have him realize he was doing unintentional (maybe intentional) fouling of his own - too much of it in some boxing people’s mind.
I think if Cus was there he’d have been going crazy screaming at the ref to break up the clinches ....Mikes reputation didn’t help his cause, so Mike had to eat that one...pun intended.
But it’s one of those fights I can’t ever give props to the victor. Too messy & sloppy. And maybe even self-righteous. I jus see it as one of those “events” that spiraled out of control.
Holyfield was a GREAT fighter, but if he thinks the “Lord” appreciates everything he did in that fight(?),.. well that’ll be between him and his version of “the Lord.”Comment

Same here, I think it would’ve turned out to be a nice competitive fight if Holyfield kept his head at bay. Tyson would not have had to keep adjusting his own head to accommodate Holyfield’s.

However, Tyson did make a tactical mistake in both the Holyfield fights. He should have thrown hefty uppercuts as Holyfield kept leaning in with that hard egg head of his. Remember how he almost saved the day in the Douglas fight with a single uppercut? Instead, perhaps out of frustration, Mike wasted too much energy by throwing hooks. Those hooks were often ineffective against Holyfield's grab-and-smother tactics. Mike disregarded discipline and kept throwing bombs, convinced that Evander would crumble at one point. Which, of course, did not happen.
Prime Tyson (the Rooney version) would have kept the pressure and those uppercut/hook combinations going, at double speed than the 1996/97 version, and - most probably - would have overwhelmed Holyfield sooner or later.Last edited by Tatabanya; 05-28-2020, 09:38 AM.Comment

Excellent points.

Mikes patented uppercuts could’ve sealed the deal for sure! I think Mike felt like the world was against him, that everyone hated him. And If not for the horny THOT affection he received during the latter half of his career - he was pretty much labeled an animal by everyone else, and he became preoccupied trying to prove he wasn’t - then he’d lose his temper - act out, probably thinking to himself “why not lose it, that’s how they see me anyway?”
No direction, hoe lovin’, Don King’s manipulation, etc.,....Mike was a mess, and in recent interviews he sounds like if he had to do it all over again - in the same way - he would. Indulging in hoes anyway.... That lifestyle will NEVER prepare you for a tough as nails Holyfield with his built in battering ram!
Holyfield’s use of his alien dome was ridiculous though. Singing gospel songs before coming into the ring, then angling his huge head in cobra mode(?) convinced me he wasn’t all that confident in his skill set. I was furious with what the 1st ref let him get away with, but wasn’t so furious afterwards when he took his life.
As a fan of the sport, I don’t give Holyfield props for either fight, his nerves took over to me....Plus Holyfield could care less what I think..lol...and I totally understand Mikes reaction...obviously don’t agree with it though.Comment

That's the sanctified image of Holyfield they needed at that time against the "evil", namely Tyson. Once Mike referred to that as Holyfield being depicted as a "lilywhite Christian" by the media, which was indeed quite laughable. Remember the "healing touch" by Benny Hinn after which Evander's steroid-induced heart condition suddenly disappeared? What a farce.Comment

Holyfield giving 7mil to prosperity theologist Creflo Dollar. And being sued by one of his childs mothers didn't win him any brownie points with me! Not to mention the landscaping company that he failed to pay a half mil.
I believe in God, but Holyfield (to me) took his version of god on a self gratifying selfish level. I mean no one's perfect, but Holyfield with his million of kids out of wedlock, had no right acting like he was sooo superior to Mike, because of some selfish glory he wanted to obtain by potentially beating in Mikes head - in a boxing match?! Didn't Mike pay his dues by spending time in jail? By being forced to do something he did not want to do??
Holyfield wouldve been faaaar more impressive if had let Mike know that they we're all in the same boat spiritually, and that the physical fight in the ring didn't mean somehow he was better - and that he could win too if he prepared right! May the best man win without "evil" headbutts and/or ear biting...lol...and that we ALL have the same potential...
He couldve been like, "here's what I believe about a FAIR loving God! Since I feel this CRAZY NEED to keep bringing him up PUBLICLY to somehow defeat you." ....Holyfield (to me) was living a dichotomy - a belief system that was nothing special. In fact, it was self serving......Comment
