You misunderstand the business model. Pay the A stars big bucks and sign B and C stars with option of fighting versus A opponents for peanuts.

Once the business - DAZN - holds a majority of key fighters it can gradually reduce contracts even for A stars. The process takes a decade or two but in that timeframe DAZN will become very profitable

Sorry but I'll never understand a business model that pays Canelo $36 mil a fight and only charge $20 for his fights when those who pay $20 for his fights will easily pay $80 for his fight.

DAZN thinks there are tens of millions of secret boxing fans out there who were waiting on a cheaper option to watch boxing. That's just not true. The highest rating for a FREE boxing match the past couple of years was 6 mil by Spence. Let's say he got the Olympic boost. So the highest rating for a FREE boxing match would be Thurman vs Garcia at 5 mil.

New businesses with always overpay for starpower. It might be questionable in short term but on the long run, it pays off.

Look at the stable of young fighters they have attracted since paying Canelo. They just need 2 or 3 of them to turn into superstars in future and DAZN would recoup that money.

Those young stars aren't attracting subscribers. DAZN needs subscribers. How do they turn into superstars when they're hidden on an app the vast majority of the public doesn't have?

If DAZN had some other content that attracts subs outside of boxing (think GOT on HBO) then I'd see a path to stardom for them.

But those young fighters also won't any publicity on the big networks as well.

Wilder, Lomachenko, Crawford et al fight on big networks. But are they draw? Wilder couldn't even sell out a small arena in his 40th and he only became relevant by attaching himself to AJ.

Boxers build fan base organically and there are other ways to do that. It's not by fighting on big networks.

You do not have a decade or 2 to be profitable. Good god some of you have zero business sense.

4 years max in you must be profitable.

Dazn started in 2016. It’s 2020 in they are out of funding and massively in debt. It’s over.

DAZN will reach the point when they will have steady amount of subs ,Fights will stop spikeing numbers of subs ,and you have fighters like Floyd who can generate big ppv numbers ,how will DAZN justifie paying fighter like that 50m per fight? They will not make money from that ,they will reduce contracts and big stars will leave to fight on PPV.

B and C stars dont want to fight for peanuts , especialy when they can sign with diffrent promotions.

If DAZN will get big it will be from soccer and NBA ,MLB etc not boxing.

I am hopeful that frankie2jabs or whatever name he is now, DaNuetral and others are man enough to come in this thread and apologize for calling every poster that tries to discuss DAZN and brings up some of the negatives isn’t a racist LDBC member.

Going forward maybe we can continue to have nuanced discussions about things like normal, rational adults.

Truth is DAZN was losing money before the pandemic. The pandemic accelerated things.

Meanwhile, the companies tied to TV seem to be planning for the future.

I'm a very satisfied American subscriber and just renewed my annual subscription. What are you talking about? DAZN has been a great deal for consumers. How is it expensive?
