We'll never know. I loved watching both, but I do feel that prime-for-prime, JMM would have taken it. Morales had tremendous skill, speed and ferocity, but so did JMM. I always felt it would have been a classic dogfight and JMM, in my mind, was physically and mentally tougher than EM. I can't argue with people who see it differently though. Both greats for sure.

I’d have slightly favoured Marquez as well, I think he was a little more accurate which would have gave him the edge. Has split decision written all over it IMO...

I think Marquez was always in the shadows of Morales/Barrera etc in his career. Good for him for getting the defining victory. Both fighters were great and both will be remembered.

Yeah, close fight, but the more I think of it, Morales' straight line attack and forward pressure would probably have worked right into JMM's hands. Erik's speed would have caused him problems for sure, but I see JMM eventually timing him well and really hurting him. A highly competitive, 116-112 type of fight in my eyes.

I think Pacquiao became a mythical figure in the mexican boxing community, because of how he took a dump on mexican boxing for almost a decade until Marquez finally KOed him for that one victory. It invigorated Mexican boxing to never let something like that happen again.

I kinda of forgetful, but didn't Morales whip Pacquiao in his prime? Or I'm I wrong?

Morales is not completely wrong, but neither is Nacho. Any boxing fans ignoring the politics in boxing has to be a complete jackass. Marquez had to fight for every single opportunity he got against top competition, he was not an extremely marketable fighter for a large part of his career. That is not a reflection whatsoever on his skill-set. Morales beat a rising Pacquiao, while Marquez and Pacquiao had one of, if not, THE greatest saga in modern boxing history. They fought 4 times because there was NEVER a clear winner on either side; both Pac and Marquez knew they would never feel satisfaction until one was deemed the true winner. Decisions aside, Manny and Roach knew they never truly won, otherwise they would have never fought them even a 2nd time.

Without the 3 knockdowns in the first round, Marquez pretty much dominated Pacquiao in the first fight.

Most people had Marquez 115-113 in the second fight. Third fight was considered a robbery. Fourth fight put the matter to rest.

Pac's first fight against Morales wasn't without it's own controversy. Let's not forget Pac's promoters were tricked into signing Pac to agree to wearing the WINNING gloves that are more padded to dampen Pac's power. That was clearly seen as Erik took just about everything without flinching. Then Pac got that nasty headbutt gash in the 5th rd that ruined his sight for the majority of the remainder of the fight which secured his loss. Now I hate making excuses but when a man says give me my usual gloves and I guarantee I'll knock him out the next fight and he does (twice), it kind of speaks volumes...

With that said, Marquez did struggle with Pac no matter which way you cut it. Pac did as well, but ultimately judges preferred the busier look Pac gave in every fight to Marquez's more accurate counter punches. Neither one truly sealed the deal on each other until Marquez ice'd Pac in the 4th.

I have my su****ions on that though as well. Your telling me, Pac ate monster shots from Marquez for the 3 prior fights and never got dropped. Marquez at nearly 40 years old all a sudden has this diabolical power that Pac never felt before? Not to mention his body looked so much more muscular than it ever did in the past fights? I think Marquez knew it was his LAST shot at Pac and had to do something dramatic to get the "W". Kind of like when Margarito plastered up for Cotto. To get that sought after "W" over the undefeated Puerto Rican to become a star in Mexico and loved. At least he got caught...
