  • Comments Thread For: Nacho Feels Canelo is Not P4P Best, Not One of Best Ever From Mexico

Hall of Fame trainer Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain does not believe world champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is capable of becoming one of the best fighters to ever come out of Mexico. Canelo is recognized by many as the biggest star in the sport, certainly in the United States, and is currently the biggest star to fight out of Mexico.

Currently right now ? Which Mexican is better ? Now all time then I agree but by a inch. However you got Chavez and who else would you put ahead of canelo?

I think he is a exceptional fighter the best in his era.But I have problems when people like the breadman have him beating proven champions like Hagler who are 15 round warriors and many of the other old timers.Canelo slows done dramatically in the late rounds and he’s only fighting 12 round fights. He May dominate early rounds but would surely drown in the deep waters of 12-15.

Nacho is a little nuts. Canelo is one of the best that's come out of Mexico. He's not your typical Mexican toe to toe brawler, he 'boxes' beautifully, and takes pride in doing so....Getting it on with Jermall, BJS and Andrade should help seal the deal in determining his greatness.

Nacho probably wont be impressed though. In that case? Who cares, you can't please everyone. Nacho should go get an enima....To be fair, fighting guys like Khan, washed up out of shape Kirkland, trying to make extra dough beating up an older slower GGG for a third time(?) etc., does Canelo no legacy favors. But he's special.

Iam not sure what middleweiggs nacho feels team canelo are swerving , he would be a favorite vs all of them . Imo deve has the best chance to beat him but I would pick canelo . Well I think boxers with movement and great footwork are to an extent canelos kryptonite I don't see saunders ( even tho he's SMW ) or andrade the guys to do it at all . Someone pls enlighten me if there is a MW iam forgetting.

Now if cinnamon can beat beterbiev and take over at 175 he will be one of the best to come out of Mexico and without a doubt no1 p4p . There's also 168 , but alot of these potential foes haven't done much yet , they def need to start fighting each other asap . But to be the best to come out of Mexico all time is a reach . I don't think canelo has the competition to achieve that status , the era is not going to permit it imo .

I personally have canelo p4p1 right now but I think it can be over taken , if crawford can clean up welterweight that would be hard to argue against , and loma has some potential fights that could put him in the no1 position as well , some think he is already altho I disagree . And u can't forget inoue , that kid is a beast and he has alot of potential fights that can solidify him as an all time great or p4p no1 aswell . Especially if he could still make 115 . There are some big fights for him down there ,and IF ( I think its a big if ) he can take over at 122 he is something else aswell .

Then there are the young guns coming up all over the board ,in the next 2-5 years it will be interesting to see where the p4p debate ends up . Whoever comes out on top at 135 is gonna be in the top 10 without question . And there are some great fights to be made at 130 aswell . Boxing is doing just fine at the elite level and iam excited to see what pans out over the next bit .

I keep on saying it. Mexicans are the harshest critics when it comes to our boxers or for anything in general. Canelo would have a statue in NY if he was American.

Nacho & JMM are bitter old jacks who can’t face up to Oscar and Canelo success

I love the way Canelo fights and he has shown 'some' balls - but GBP matchamakers are doing a superb job.

Mayweather fight - that was a low risk huge potential gain fight and good money fight

Lara and Trout - these are his 2 most ballsey fights. Credit.

The 155 nonsense - he missed fights against the other belt holders at 154 and waited for GGG to age meanwhle fighting Cotto and Khan - low risk manoeuvre and money fights

GGG fights - medium risk and high financial gain with taking the DAZN money

                  168 'belt' - bull**** fight

Kovalev - some risk involved even against a faded past prime Kovalev - so credit where due and he executed in style

so yeah, I totally get where Beristain is coming from - but where I differ is that the jury is still out. Canelo is already a lock for HOF and still has a chance to become an ATG if he is matched more adventurously - but I suspect he won't be.

I'm glad you put 'if' - I'd bet a lot of money on Beterbiev winning that if it happened in the next year - after that, not so much as he's already 35 yrs old.

If Trout and Lara gave Canelo fits I'm pretty sure that Andrade would too. I also think Jermall Charlo's chin, athleticism and power would be a tough style matchup for Canelo.
