There was long overdue hype for Tyson vs Holyfield. It just made for a great sellable fight. Both guys were size relevant and had been at the top of boxing for years and years. I always got the impression after the Holyfield fiasco Tyson was the one chasing Lennox. I'm not positive now but perhaps Lennox was the one chasing him going into the 2000s.

It's not just the age, it's the lifestyle, mileage, style and the fact that he was an undersized heavyeeight taking punches from people way bigger than him. You get washed up fast like this. Not a lot of fighters with that type of style/attributes had long primes.

In 1996, Lennox Lewis was Mike Tyson's mandatory for the WBC belt. But he paid Lennox Lewis $4million to step aside so he could fight Bruce Seldon in a unification fight. And Lennox was promised his shot after the fight.

But after beating Bruce Seldon, Mike Tyson ducked Lennox and dropped the WBC belt to fight Holyfield.
