He said 'willing' he didn't say he'd turn his back on a more lucrative fight to automatically sign any offer he was sent between those weights. At the end of the day any and all fighters are 'willing' to fight guys in adjacent divisions if the deal is right.. but that's the kicker isn't it? 
If you had a dude mandated to unify with the winner of Cotto - Canelo you saying you'd advise him to instead go up in weight to fight Ward for less money in the exact same timeframe you were expecting the unification to take place?
