Comments Thread For: Josh Warrington: I Want Shakur Stevenson Sooner Than Later!

IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington is not impressed with the level of competition that Shakur Stevenson has beaten Stevenson, who holds the WBO's world title, has been itching to fight Warrington in a high stakes unification. Warrington appears to be heading in the direction of a clash with WBA champion Xu Can, but that match is not set in stone with the current restrictions connected to the coronavirus pandemic.

Well, if you want it, sign up & fight him Josh! To me, this is the obvious fight out there. I can understand Josh wants to maximise his potential options but his apparent unwillingness to get in with Shakur doesn't look good to neutrals, nor even to his supporters. Also Josh, and I'd guess the whole of the global boxing public, doesn't want to get stuck with Warrington v Galahad II. So sign up for Shakur Josh!

So why were you set to fight Xu Can instead?

This fight wont happen I don't think Shakur will be able to make 126 anymore once boxing returns to normal he had already said he was moving up before this even happened Warrington just talking now but before he wanted to unify with Xu instead.

He was asked a question, he answered it. Xu was next in line because imo he's seen as the easier one with a belt. Sort of makes sense for Josh. He's not a big hitter. Absolute bulldog, but he struggles to get rid of opponents...

I've stated before I think Josh has been sort of let down in his career to date. Yes he's a belt holder so you can say it's gone well but i think he should be more advanced than he is. Whether that's just been talk from him or badly advised I don't know. For years he talks of going to crack America but when you look at his record, to me it seems he needs to crack everywhere apart from his home town.
