Comments Thread For: Garcia: I See Gervonta As Sonny Liston; Don't Really Love Boxing, Loves The Money

Ryan Garcia considers Gervonta Davis "a little Mike Tyson." The undefeated lightweight contender means that as a compliment. Garcia wasn't praising the unbeaten WBA world lightweight champion when he compared Davis to another maligned heavyweight champion.

The 0 is the most important thing if you ain't tryna risk losing those big paychecks & hafta climb your way back up after a loss. Can't blame anybody for trying not to F their money up, but these young dudes do WAY too much talking nowadays. This ish is getting boring.

boxing could be much more popular if big fights didnt slip by all the time or happen past primes, it would stop so many silly online stuff too imo

What a ridiculous comparison. Boxing in 2020 really must be the minor leagues if Tank gets compared to Liston and Garcia gets compared to other good fighters from the past. Both these guys look like the best guys at your local gym, or local area, not the best in the world. And their fights are boring too.

This is not at all the biggest issue, because every time big fights happen, those are boring too. The product of boxing in 2020 has an inherent flaw that makes it quite boring almost no matter who is in the ring. Every fight is lots of paddy cake, every punch always seems to somehow miss or not land flush at the last moment just by an inch or two, hard fast full power punches just never seem to land so it's boring. People say it's like watching sparring but even sparring with hard flush punches can be very fun to watch if both people in the ring are there by their free choice and healthy etc, but in professional "boxing" you just never see good punches land so it's boring.

thats 2 equally matched opponent sometimes cancel each other out maybe with neither risking themselves too much

that could be fixed wiht KO of the night, bonus for stoppage etc, lots of things could be added but u need to get people to fight each other too

60 years on and Liston is still the villain.

Gervonta has little in common with Liston, and Garcia is showing his ignorance of boxing history.

Fighters today fight not to lose at all costs rather than win at all costs. You are right, when bigger fights happen they are almost always a let down. Boxers in 2020 are divas.
