Deontay Wilder demands $10million to step aside

Deontay Wilder reportedly wants a huge payout – likely to the tune of $10million (£8.1m) – and a guarantee he will face the winner of Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua in order to step aside from his third fight with Fury. Wilder was overwhelmed by Fury in Las Vegas in their second fight but a clause in their contract ensured a third bout was on the table for the previously undefeated heavyweight champion.

The result meant Fury – who is yet to suffer a professional loss – and Joshua – who avenged his only defeat to Andy Ruiz – hold all the heavyweight belts. An all-British unification bout has been the talk of the town ever since but Wilder and Kubrat Pulev – who was scheduled to fight Joshua in June before the coronavirus pandemic brought the sporting world to a grinding halt – need to step aside before the fight can get ahead.

Pulev has previously admitted he would entertain a step-aside offer in order to make that happen and, according to The Athletic, Wilder will also be willing to consider a proposal. But he wants a record $10m and the chance to fight the winner of Joshua and Fury’s mega-money bout.

    I predicted it.

But they would be ****** to give him $10million and a chance to face the winner.

$3million and only a chance to face Fury in the rubber match if Fury wins.

He's going to fold and pull out. Why give him that much money? I guess that's why Arum is trying to force the rematch.

The man gave you his price. Either pay it or shut the hell up about Fury vs Joshua for now.

More reason why they need to wait. He wants to pull out and they can't go around paying him crazy money. I'm sure he'll take $3million by July to save face and fight Fury again next year.

Shut up. No one is paying that bum $10million and another chance to earn a big payday against Josh if he wins.

$3million and get destroyed by Fury again late next year win/lose.

Like any negotiation, you start with an unusual high price and then settle for real price.

Wilder saying he wants 10 mill says he is not fighting Fury next. He will settle for around 3 mill and get a guarantee to fight next if Fury wins. No way should the guarantee include whoever wins. Give him 3 mill and a Fury guarantee only if he wins.

                    Thats reasonable.

                    Bring on Fury-AJ.
