His best wins at 154? 160? What's his potential going forward? Unless he fights either Canelo or GGG he won't even sniff 8-figures in his lifetime.
Andrade for his age is already doing better than GGG

They actually had similar problems FWIW in terms of being perceived as relatively high risk low reward, but being with minor promotions who didn't really have the power to get em good fights anyway. Golovkin didn't go pro til 4 years later of course which makes the comparison a bit meaningless plus of course the years he lost through his legal dispute with Universum.
On the flip side of course Golovkin had the big KO reputation which got him picked up by HBO with the exposure and PR opportunities that brought. It was slow work given the K2s minimal pull in the US and their lack of a stable but by 32 Golovkin was at least position to make waves and their was some buzz around him, whilst sadly Andrade still doesn't get much love outside of the hardcore.
Damn shame, but just one more example of the fact that opportunity in boxing just ain't a level field. Doesn't matter how good you are if you ain't got the right backing, a built in fanbase or the money guys don't think you'll can get the casuals tuning in...Last edited by Citizen Koba; 05-11-2020, 12:27 PM.Comment

Given that he was a Kazakh with no fanbase who few people outside of the boxing conescenti had heard of til he was near 31 years old and was basically starting his career virtually from scratch then yeah, I'd have to agree HBO did a spectacular job selling him, specially given they were trying to build him on a economy budget in a division without much US interest.
KO artists are always gonna be an easier sell though, so I ain't holding out a great deal of hope for Boo Boo, I'm just hoping Hearn pushes to get some return on his investment.Comment

Andrade has a done a good job at making money while fighting sparingly. That's about it.Comment

I remember his last oponent called him delusional cuz he was claiming he was out there fighting the best. It seemed he took that very personal and went out there and really went for the KO to prove a point. I’ve always criticized Andrade for trying to only outpoint oponents and pick up easy wins but if he try’s to get the KO more often he will pick up some more fans. Ppl have to remember this is pro boxing and ppl want to be entertainedGiven that he was a Kazakh with no fanbase who few people outside of the boxing conescenti had heard of til he was near 31 years old and was basically starting his career virtually from scratch then yeah, I'd have to agree HBO did a spectacular job selling him, specially given they were trying to build him on a economy budget in a division without much US interest.

that was about 2014
at that point, Golovkin's best opponent was Adama
so yep, there is certainly not much between them at this point
also Golovkin never went for broke with his opponent selection, or anything even close... so regarding legacy, Andrade signing to fight Saunders, is only eclipsed by Golovkin signing to fight Canelo... because they needed to drag Golovkin to the Jacobs fight kicking and screaming
it is entirely conceivable that Andrade could achieve more in the sport... especially if he picks up a title at 168, and manages to beat a couple of big names
not sure about money though... because Golovkin was a pampered HBO network-darling, and then he got that ridiculous deal from DAZN based off Canelos sweat
legacy-wise, Golovkin bluffed it... money-wise, Golovkin jacked DAZN... I do not see Andrade becoming super-popular with casual-fans, but he could still be regarded as a better fighter by historians if he embarks on a meaningful run...
Plodkin moved his career along VERY slowly, Andrade would eclipse him if he beat Charlo Plant Saunders in the next 2 yearsComment

Andrade has a chance at a great career. If he has 20 consecutive title defenses, unifies titles, beats Danny Jacobs and fights to a draw against Canelo in a fight everyone thought he won, he’ll be just as good as GGG if not better.Comment
