  • Comments Thread For: WBC Explores Possibility Of Remote Scoring For Upcoming Sanctioned Bouts

Day by day, the boxing world continues to plan for what can potentially become the new normal. As promoters begin to explore the possibility of staging live boxing events in secluded venues closed to the general public, the World Boxing Council (WBC) is also exploring ways for full participation in the eventual aftermath of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. One such policy suggested by the Mexico City-based sanctioning body is remote scoring conducted by assigned judges.

I'm sick of all the horrible scorecards so I'm all for this. Anythings better than the three blind fossils sitting ringside for every fight.

So basically, the judges can hand out 117-111 scorecards to whoever the wbc preferred fighters are from the comfort of their homes. Very nice.

        Mauricio Sulaiman have spoken.

The time of changing is coming. I am curious to see the first sanctioned fight with this idea implemented. If this idea is a success, then the changes are going to be implement.

Under such a system, the WBC needs to answer the simple question of 'why restrict to three judges ?' Many past problems are that in a pot of only 3 scorecards, it just takes one maniacal scorecard to create problems.

          Solution:
          - expand to 5
          - offer the judging roles to people like Breadman, who understand boxing much better than people like Adalaide Byrd does for example, and are in a position to argue and defend their scoring later
          - majority scoring, each round given a single score based on the judges scores for that round, eg if 3 give 10-9 to boxer A and the other 2 give it to boxer B, round is scored 10-9 to boxer A (easy to consistantly arrive at a single score no matter the permutations of the 5)

My first thought: good idea, but not the WBC; those guys are the most corrupt and this just gives them an extra level of Teflon to be more so.

Will the winner get a virtual image of the Huichol Aztec belt broadcast to them?
