Comments Thread For: Local Rivalry Fights Will Be Key To Relaunching The Boxing Economy

By Corey Erdman - The ongoing global pandemic has forced everyone to get comfortable with being at home. For some, that's meant taking up a new hobby, trying new recipes or binging a new series. For boxing fans, that's meant a lot of daydreaming and fantasy booking of fights that could potentially happen once social distancing measures are loosened.

Regional rivalries are some of the best IMO. I was just thinking about these as a matter of fact. Looking back on some I remember were the fights between Davey Hilton and Stephanie Ouellette and Dana Rosemblatt and Vinny Pazienza. As I recall Romero and Tapia really generated alot of buzz in a battle for Albuquerque.

Here in the DMV, Sharmba Mitchell and Reggie Green squared off years ago.

Bring on some good regional fights!

      Great plan.

This is the piece of the puzzle that boxing needs. What better way to begin and build a fight of local rivalries theme in these dark times, people are going to like that idea, me too. There is numerous ways to build a local rivalry that can sell. Hope this is the step to see boxing soon.

Local rivalries, those are some of the best fights I like to watch because the crowds are often really hyped up.. feels like has been a missing element in the US. Used to love those east coast rivalry fights. Seems like the UK still do these well.

How about the promoters and the networks stop it with their BS and bring forth the fights we truly want!!! Crawford vs Spence... Garcia vs Pacquiao... Joshua vs Fury.... Wilder vs Ruiz... Inoue vs Navarrete... Lopez vs Lomachenko.... Canelo vs GGG.... Estrada vs Chocolatito.... Broner vs Ortiz...

Fixed. The A-Side goes on the left.

And I know of nobody who wants to see Wilder fight Ruiz.

Lastly, Victor is the only Ortiz worth matching with Broner at this point, and that would be a good fight.

Idk how local club show level rivalries will be key. I'm guessing club shows will have a awful time selling tickets for awhile due to covid19. How many mfers really wanna go to a local boxing event while still engaged in a pandemic with some guy behind you or beside you (3 to 6 ft away of course) screaming his lungs out for the B side to "jab mfer!!!" while spitting all his potential Coronavirus air droplets in your vicinty.

And what fights even fit this sorta criteria in the US? Either guys have too small a following or they are too big to be fighting on cards like this.

I think the key is from the top to the bottom not vice versa. The big fights or biggest fights during this pandemic will guide boxing fans back slowly but surely. Feels like it might take awhile til we get back to normal or we create a new normal for.

I was referring to Virgil Ortiz. Victor is way more washed up than broner. Broner is a gate keeper for up and coming prospects. That would be a great test for Virgil.

Virgil Ortiz has not earned a fight against the guy that fought Manny Pacquiao. No. I don't support that.

                  Let him (eye) test Crawford.

Very tough road back for Boxing for sure WOW didn't even think about this

Boxing in the UK and the US will be OK just doing fights between Americans and Brits or guys who are already living in those countries BUT but damn what about fighters from other countries? As a boxing fans I'm kinda nervous, not sure how or if this sport will ever FULL RECOVER especially when here in America the sport popularity was already very Low and Wilder vs Fury II did OK but didn't do as great as they hoped for I'm sure

Will be interesting but any kinda of boxing event even without a Crowd I would take that right now regardless if it is just Tune Ups!
