Mexican Americans are the most supportive boxing fans in the USA when they have w popular Mexican boxer, and boxers from Mexico are more popular than even Mexican American boxers. This cannot be challenged....especially in California, Nevada, and texas where they make their presence known. I was at the Canelo vs kirkland fight with about 31,000 other people and Canelo was fighting a tomato can.
The problem I have with that is the bottom drips out of the barrel of Canelo decides to retire or takes a few losses and then boxing suffers. I think this is also a problem with not having the best fighting the best. I think even Mexican American fans would watch big fights if you had more legendary matchups. I concede that Mexican Americans generally have sports stars who are boxers. Whites and blacks in the USA can look to football, baseball, basketball and in the American tribal mindset they can feel represented. Representation should ever be overlooked as a factor in the popularity (or lack thereof) with boxing in the USA and certainly was a reason ufc rose to popularity in the era of hyper racial nationalism in the USA. Had every champion in Ufc been black American or Mexican American it would not have been so popular with white Americans youth from the suburbs

Very true on that statement. Now it’s Brazilians taking over UFC along with other non Americans. Honestly I think overall that’s a good thing for UFC. Since MMA is a world sport. While boxing it’s headquarters will always be Vegas and you actually need an American heavyweight to keep the sport alive. Let’s be honest boxing is dying here just by looking at American talent in the last 10 years. Our best heavyweight was Deontay lol.

I think what boxing promoters need to do to get young viewers is to realize that young people just follow the opinions of social media YouTubers and e-celebs. Promoters like Eddie Hearn should be giving YouTubers and young movie stars free tickets with the stipulation that they should at least tweet out about the event. Floyd had the right idea with Justin Bieber, with just one tweet Justin reached out to millions of young kids easier and faster then any press conference or promotion clip.

Here in NYC it is hard to pick up boxing because 95% of boxing gyms, even the most renowned, have become “boutique gyms.” They no longer encourage young kids to come in so they can train to become a world champ someday. They now cater to white collar folks looking to get a workout. Their membership rates are so high no kid from the barrio/hood is able to afford it

Weird, it feels like upstate in the Syracuse/Buffalo/Rochester areas the gyms feel like they're trying to cater towards young amateur boxing

Since when did boxing attract solely kids? People can die in the ring, this is not Disney land. Look back at the history of boxing, LOOK who was turning up to all of the big events 'Mobsters, prestigious movie stars, athletes, political figures' etc

Real Boxing fans and people within boxing really need to stop acting like mugs 'Constantly bad mouthing the sport, and broadcasting its demise'.

Let's face it boxing as a sport is great but as a business it sucks. When you're 12 you want to root for your team and how do you do that when the top guys fight 2X a year?
Also when you do get a good match up the judges usually mess up and the ref is out to lunch.
It's amazing anyone over 12 puts up with this sh/t, but the hardcore fans live in the hope to see a great fight, mano a mano, where both fighters dig deep and give it their max, because there's probably nothing better in sports.

. There is also an important fact the author missed: people want Mike Tyson but boxing media tries to give them Mayweather. Most men dont care about how much skill the very defensive fighter has, kids never will. Kids want a superman who destroys.

Muhammad Ali is the most popular boxer & athlete who ever lived. He was not a knockout artist by any means.

There is nothing wrong with boxing, people need to stop looking at the sport as the issue.

People need to stop continually criticizing the sport of boxing, there is nothing wrong with it.

Oh yeah, nothing wrong with the judging, or 17 weight classes, or at least 4 belts in each weight class, or fights that are unaccessible to the average person because of PPV rates.

well for starters all this new guys are suddenly "great" because they have more followers on social media, the fighters who needs to fight don't fight each other but instead fight opponents the people know already they gonna beat, buncha p*ssies now a days who feels they are privilege to millions of dollars, and then when the fighters you want to see fight fights the fight suck big balls because either one or both dont want to get hit.

we all know the boxing match story already and i posted it here too many times but kept getting deleted.

only mexicans will go brawl out with another mexican or latin dude or asian. it's a brawl for sure. but in the end a great mexican will always lose to a great slick black fighter. will end up losing to both.

a european guy will always rack wins in their hometown and will always end up fighting a black american. but gotta go thru a great mexican first.

a black fighter will only be famous if he acts ******. a proper black fighter wont get as popular.
