Brook said after the fight his orbital went in the 6th/7th round and after that his vision was compromised. He was winning up to that point.
Brook is a great fighter but just like someone with a weak chin his kryptonite is his orbital bones. Now he has them both replaced but he his past his peak, shame.

This always an overlooked point. Crawford came to Scotland as well. But these are world championships that they are winning and defending. This should be the norm.

This is just one more reason why Ali is the greatest!

Also much credit to all those African fighters (CWs and HWs) who have no fan base and go to Russia which must be such an alien experience for them.

not sure about broken but you could add "weight drained" - after going up to 160 in his previous fight and putting on A LOT of muscle and weighing in at 159 I think it was for the Golovkin fight and then going back down to 147 not just to fight anyone but a peak-prime Spence - fecking hell! At least he wanted one thing going in his favour which was the home crowd.

Absolutely... these are guys who basically have to fight half their careers on the road and 9/10 are gonna have the judges against 'em, whether in Europe or the US. One of the reasons why much of the time it's the KO artists out of Africa that you hear about... the slicker guys are often fighting the judges as much as their opponents and get buried before they ever get started. Mostly the times African guys get to our screens is when they get picked up by a US or British promoter.

That said props to Pole Cieslak who went to Kinshasa a coupla months back to fight Makabu in a temporary arena under less than ideal circumstances... not many guys from Europe or the US would take that shot.

Course he deserves respect for winning a title on away soil, just like Brook did against Porter.

It's wasn't Spence's fault what happened to Brook, he was only actioning his right as mando. I'm a Brook fan, followed his career from winning British WW title but he and his advisors got it wrong.

I appreciate his frustration at not landing the big names and money after his Porter win but he should have taken either the GGG fight or the Spence fight, not both. Who's going to criticise him for ducking if he refused to boil back down to 147 to fight Spence having fought GGG at 160?

He's simply outgrown the weight, been making 147 since he was 18 and still had to cut weight on the morning of the Porter fight. That said it would have taken something very special to topple Brook that night in California, for me that version of Brook decisions the version of Spence he fought in Sheffield.

I gave him more respect for the Garcia win.

Brooks clan are always hostile, but a very respectful lot. Any fight he has is a good crack and a bout at "the lane" is/was a special occasion for him. Any loss is gutting but he would have been devastated just as much with it being on his "home turf" as much as the loss itself.
