    Hatton-Mayweather, y'see, the thing is...

... for all we know, they could have a complementary mix of styles that makes for a close, competitive fight that one wins, but both come out with good honours. No Hatton stops Mayweather late, or Mayweather "makes him look like Gatti".

This fight could be so good, so thrilling, that we'd demand to see a rematch, followed by a rubber match. They could elevate each other in the sport.

But instead neither seem to be going for it, and I'm past caring as to who's fault that is. It's not good saying "such-and-such pulled out", it really doesn't matter. All that matters is that neither is presently signing for anything like a competitive or noteworthy match-up and the fight looks like it'll never happen. And that's a shame, a great shame.

It's possibly worse for Mayweather, cos whereas with Hatton we'll hear about how he was "the Brit f.ag who held" and that'll be it, we'll have to spend the next ten years on this forum trawling through threads about how Mayweather would have beat this opponent, and that opponent... without ever having seen the bouts in the first place. (cross-ref: Roy Jones Jr.)

And that, is a shameful waste. Disappointing.

    The fights never happen.

    Benn/Jones Jr didn't, Lewis/Bowe didn't. Even Toney/Eubank, Mayweather/Hamed.

It wouldn't suprise me if this one didn't come off, or one of them messed up and lost or something.

i completely, 100%-ly, agree with u. if we dont get the opportunity to see this fight go down, it will be a damn shame. mayweather has said that he is the only fighter that fights at 140, 147, and 154, so a fight with hatton at 140 (if hatton decides to stay there) isnt unplausable. After DLH and/or Mosley, if both fighters are still undefeated, i can definetly see this fight happening.

People will say that after 2 huge wins over all-time greats, mayweather deserves a break against an easier but still great opponent. Hatton will pop-up and since hatton has recently said that they want mayweather ASAP, the fight will be made. I think this fight will happen, and it will be a GREAT fight, almost garunteed!!!

This fight will happen as long as Ricky continues to campaign in the United States as well as win in the United States.

Before Ricky lost a bit of luster against Collazo I believed that this was THEEEEE FIGHT in our sport to be made.

Im down on it a bit but I still think it is one of the top 3 or 4 fights that can be made.

If there is one fighter that Ricky should fight at 147 its Floyd...anybody else he needs to rumble at 140 with but I believe that Floyd is the one fighter that Ricky will hold an advantage over at 147.

Agree Scap... the Collazo fight has taken the sheen off it somewhat.

I do still raise an eyebrow against Mayweather's competition recently. Yeah, he looked good against Gatti and Judah... but Carlos Baldomir looked good against Gatti and Judah.

I pretty much like them equally but if this fight doesn't happen, it's Hatton's fault because so far only Mayweather has offered the fight, and Hatton said he wasn't ready. When will Hatton be ready? When Mayweather is a middleweight and Hatton's still at 140? Hatton should have pushed for the November fight instead of fighting some bum in December.

Hatton has a lot more to his game than power-punching

I'd call him a cute swarmer.
