He'd have a shot had he say fought Floyd anytime after say 2014, but Floyd would've never fought a blue chip prospect like Spence who's bigger, stronger, and can punish him at that point in Floyd's career.

Politics wise....Floyd is his prime may not have had the pull in Vegas that he enjoyed once he really started making his dough post-Oscar.
I could see Spence coming into that fight as the fan favorite with more than half the crowd behind him which can sway judges.
For example, might be hard to believe that Zab was the crowd favorite at the beginning of Floyd/Zab. If it was Spence on that fight instead of Zab, with that crowd, and no-mid fight ring riot, then I could see Floyd not necessarily being seen as the house fighter and getting close rounds by benefit of the doubt. T
But turning things around now - Spence is supposed to be in his prime right now and got taken to the limit by Porter - who, if he had any accuracy in his punches, would have landed 2x as much and won that fight outright (not a criticism of Porter, just making tough opinions ).
I like what Spence is bringing, but I have to go with Floyd he just moves too well when he's good (not some of the running we saw during the SHO time contract).Last edited by LA_2_Vegas; 04-28-2020, 07:41 PM.

Castillo was an absolute monster at the time. Beat Corrales and Casamayor years later who were both top fighters. He was an elite pressure fighter and had boxing skill as well.
I wouldn’t read much into sparring as anyone can have a good session especially when the guy is 37/38 and you’re 22/23. To me Floyd from 98-2007 and 2009-2015 were two different fighters with different mentalities. Don’t get it twisted he was still great but he said himself he lost a lot of passion for boxing later in his career. Whereas 98-2007 Floyd was hungry and a monster.
I think it’s a competitive fight but ultimately IQ is the difference and I’ve never seen a fighter adjust and adapt like Floyd. A lot of guys gave him trouble at times and had “moments” but nobody was ever able to sustain it and keep up with him from a ring IQ point of view.
Would be an interesting fight I think it would be pretty similar to the Cotto and Mosley fights. He would have a moment or moments but I don’t see it being a close one in the end.
I was higher on Spence than I am now...especially now with the accident...but at some point someone will just be too big for Floyd.
Also fair to wonder what version of Floyd Spence would be fighting...Floyd was an ATG for what he did at the lower weights...at 147 I think he was a tough opponent for anyone all-time but I wouldn't call him the best there.
Just size-wise he isn't as big as most other ATG 147 guys...look at SRL, he went all the way up to 168 or was it 175? Imagine Floyd going to 160...he would look so tiny.
