I don't think Muhammad Ali ever entered into his peak 'And in the second half of his career, he fought to the level of his opponents' Ali was not the hardest of trainers etc

Most people point to him stopping Cleveland "Big Cat" Williams

Mind you, it was nowhere near the same Williams that Liston stopped twice.

Take this thread to the history section. Verrrrry few posters in this section have ever seen any of his fights.

              Pre exile.....

              Between Liston and Folley IMO.

Cleveland Williams would arguably his peak performance.

Don't you think his peak performance was against Foreman?

Not at all, he was well past his prime against Foreman. However Ali’s incredible toughness and undeniable will saw him through.

The fact that overcame such insurmountable odds against Foreman makes it a better win than Williams but it wasn’t a peak performance.

Ali at his peak would not be “rope a doping” he’d be “floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee”.😂

Ali was inconsistent during his career. He wasn't real good about training for his fights. I think for most fights he simply could not get motivated.

Ali's best weight was about 212 - 215, at that weight he could really move his feet, he could hit and move and also attack from angles. When he started getting up over 220, he tried to rely more on upper body movement and less on his feet which was not nearly so effective.
