Well that’s kind of a defining flaw for a fighter to have. That’s part of the “it”, he just didn’t have.
He looked great against opposition that were outmatched/outsized, but looked ordinary or worse vs good opponents. The ponce de leon fight was what gave me pause on broner.Comment

Yeah good point, I originally thought it was just an “off night” against Ponce De Leon it was in fact a sign of things to come.Well that’s kind of a defining flaw for a fighter to have. That’s part of the “it”, he just didn’t have.

Yeah , life is definitely to shortYeah exactly man, I remember teaching this kid, he played for Man United’s academy, but he was always doing the wrong things hanging with the wrong crowd etc, got released by United for behavioural issues, bounced around several clubs and ended up getting a YTS at Preston I think (a paid contract for a youth player) but he was just intent on ruining things, I remember sitting him down before he left my school and asking him why he was so intent on ruining his life? He literally just shrugged. 3 years later he ended up in a car crash and is effectively now a vegetable.Comment

Wasted talent or exposed hype?
Is it too late for AB to make a comeback?
He’s never been my cup of tea but I hate to see people waste their talent.
I would say wasted talent more than exposed hype. Broner was genuinely "The Problem" at 130 and 135.

It depends on how you define "comeback". Can he come back and reach the heights we predicted he would back in 2012? I doubt it but anything is possible. I think that right now his best case scenario is to test guys like Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia as they move up in weight (I could see even see fights at a catchweight of 143-144 if those guys are at 140).Comment

Yeah I think it’s more wasted talent, along with a corrupt mentality.Wasted talent or exposed hype?

By comeback, I basically mean can he regain a world title, beat a credible fighter or something like that.
He’s never going to be the P4P superstar many expected him to be, that’s for sure.Comment

He destroyed himself physically by substance abuse and lack of training and boxing IQ wise by stopping to learn. He surrounded himself by yes-men and didn't take advice so he has nobody to blame but himself regardless of his background.
It's definitley too late for a real comeback, but he might still have one last good performance in him against the right opponent.Comment

I think that at best he could win a vacant title and possibly pull off an upset against the right opponent. Broner's "problem" (no pun intended) is that he has rarely if ever come from behind to win. He is normally ahead or behind for the whole fight.Comment

Broner had a special level of physicality at 130-135 because he could stand in the box and **** away at his opponents while their punches bounced harmlessly off his shell defense.
Unfortunately he doesn't have the same physicality at 147 (or even 140) and he never put in the time necessary to figure out how to win at the top level using a different strategy.Comment

Yeah he can’t deal with adversity. He just goes into a shell.Comment
