Joshua, Canelo and Pacquiao are the only fighters who have a real fan base.
Fighters Who Have No Fans

I think the tier under the three I mentioned have boxing fans as fans. I think those fans are actually fans of boxing more than the fighter themselves. So I think the Wilder and Thurman fan bases are fans of them being among the best in their division. I think when Canelo, Joshua and Pacquiao are completely done, they could still sell out a football stadium and be on pay per view. I don’t see that with anyone else.

There are people with a national fanbase but no grassroots/hometown fanbase. Example: Devon Alexander was huge in St. Louis, meanwhile Tim Bradley couldn't fill a parking lot. Bradley, though beating guys like Alexander, eventually started putting up good TV numbers.
Sergio Martinez was that way. Paul Williams. Golovkin.Comment

He was someone they tried to cram down the boxing worlds throat as a living legend. Anyone with a sceptical eye saw through that and straight to the favourable treatment. Never made a big splash outside of North America. He commands no respect from me or anyone else who knows boxing. At least not to the degree that you Ward fans seem to respect him.Comment

old light guys no one gives a **** about like Jack McAuliffe and Jimmy Barry.
Sometimes being really good and having beaten a lot of great names but having never gotten a chance at the title makes you have a greater mystique like with Sam Langford. Sometimes it just makes you be forgotten.
Holman Williams 146-31
debut 1932-08-12
Williams was known as a boxer-puncher early in his career, but he become a defensive specialist after his hands were broken several times. He had an excellent jab, deft footwork, and taut defense. "Holman Williams was a great boxer, but he never got the recognition because he wasn't a puncher," Futch said. "He had the finesse of a Ray Robinson, but no punch."
Williams scored victories over notable boxers such as Steve Belloise, Eddie Booker, Charley Burley, Cocoa Kid, Lloyd Marshall, Archie Moore, Bob Satterfield, and Kid Tunero. In 1946, after nearly 14 years as a pro, he lost back-to-back decisions to Marcel Cerdan and Jake LaMotta.
More recently:
Harry Simon
Dmitry Pirog
Mihai Leu
Terry Marsh
Sven Ottke
all prove you need more than an 0 to have an enduring fanbase.
No one's Valero's fan either...for obvious reasons.Comment

Damn it, you are making me want to research it but they literally fought everyone everywhere. Argh what name did they go by?
I am trying to reconcile tax issues so this is a distraction
