I know what you're talking about. Some guys hit the bag slow and hard. They stand flat-footed and rest every ten seconds. Their legs are sid-by-side. They don't really understand the trainer's instrucions.......etc....Originally posted by Vanilla GorillaWHen i say no rythym and coordiation i am going to the extremes.Comment

I just get myself mad then the first round bell dings and I'm on the other guy pounding on him. I don't relax at all. I actually think that relaxing might hurt you.
lol, so true. My first amateur fight i was sooooo nervous. The ring seemed really really bright, i mean brighter than normal. All i heard was muffled noises in the background. I heard "nothing" in my corner. I was too tense. i lost a split dec. I forgot what to do. Just a mental breakdown.
I had to learn to relax more. I think i was just nervous, my second fight was much better. i won a split but i learned my lesson with the throwing of punches. Just let your hands go and the judges will score them!Comment

Yea. I was scared in my first fight, not scared to fight, but scared to lose or look like an idiot. My stomach hurt, I was already sweating gallons, I was already breathing out my mouth, I was shaking, I couldn't pay much attention to my trainers and fellow boxers. That also happens sometimes (though not as extreme) right before I'm about to spar, but then you get hit for the first time and throw the first punch, and IT ALL GOES AWAY.Originally posted by Vanilla Gorillalol, so true. yah some guys are just terrible. I hate to say it but its just true. Even when a trainer is telling them how to stand or how to throw a simple jab...some guys just dont get it. I'm not trying to discourage anyone , i'm just telling it like it is from what i have seen. The trainers in my particular gym will not work with anyone who they think does not have any potential. Its sad really.Comment

lol, same with me. My first fight my girlfriend was front row. My parents where there and a few of my close friends. I went to starbucks about 1 hour before my fight and got espresso coffee thinking it would boost my energy...it made me more nervous and cramping! lol, i got worked in there bad...but i learned my lesson. Your right about being scared...not really scared to fight just scared to look bad in front of everyone you know. I remember every minute of my first fight thats how bad it was , lol.Comment

well the local PAL i go to is a boxing club. i guess noone has worked with me becuase it has only been my second day there, but two of the guys know that i want to train to fight. idk, i seem kind of out of wack there becuase i'm the only asian guy in an all-black boxing club. the place i go to is really run down and the neighborhood is semi dangerous. i can post up a shadowboxing session up later tonight or maybe tomorrow.
and the 50 dollars wasn't for the PAL, it was a different personal boxing trainer i went to. that's his link - http://personalboxingtraining.com/home.html
it was about an hour session. 40 mins focused mits and 20 minutes for abs.
once i go to college (rutgers university, new jersey), i might wnat to sign up to the boxing gym thats in the same town, but i wnat to go check it out first. but for now i'm going to stick with the local PAL the next town over until i go to college. i talked to one of the guys at the PAL and he said 50 dollars an hour isn't bad if he's a good trainer or an ex-pro boxer, becuase he said if i go to one of those trainers that train 20 dollars a session, they usually don't teach you crap and they are the ones that drain you of your money in the long run, while 50 dollars for a legit trainer is ok. i dotn know though, i dont have that kin dof money at the age of 18!Comment

Dude if you show everyone at your Local Pal that you've got heart, then NO ONE WILL THINK YOURE WHACK! Just train there for two more weeks, then spar one of them, when your ready though, and even if you suck in the ring, which you shouldn't after two weeks, then everyone will respect you forever. That's how it was at my gym. I didn't suck while sparring, its just that the other guy was much more experienced. After that, everyone shook my hand and we all became friends. As for the money part, I dont know about that. It does seem like a rip off for fifty dollars a session.Comment
