go to titleboxing.com and order training videos...if Calvin Brock can od it, you can as well...pm me if you want advice on self training... -
You can always go to boxing shows...but you have to find out WHERE they are going to be...and you can buy your own boxing license/passbook at the event and just get a random trainer at the event to work your corner.Comment

Im a boxer. I've been in a few amateur fights already and am nearing my next one. The best way to do it is to join your local boxing gym, a legit one, and most boxing gyms send their fighters to amateur fights every or every other weekend. I started training about four months ago and then I had my first amateur fight. I wasn't looking for the knockout, thats the worst way to start any fight, so I just started boxing him. I coasted to an easy unanimous decision. Though my amateur fights are only three rounds three minutes a round. Im 4-0. Its easy, a great workout, and very fun to beat up on another guy, especially when all your friends and family are watching. To answer your question again, just join a gym and talk to the coach, tell him you want amateur fights, and he'll train you every week day until your ready for a fight, then you just tell him and your off to another city to kick some ass.Originally posted by tekniqhow do you become an amateur boxer? do you have to be part of a gym to be an amateur boxer or do you have to have a trainer? i was planning to train for 5 months until golden gloves in january but idk where to start. i've been to the local PAL for the past two days but i dont get much attention in there and i have had one private lesson, but it's too costly. one hour for 50 bones. any help?"

I would not recommend just showing up to a boxing show, buying your passbook and throwing down. Does the Pal that you go to have a boxing gym? Videos will teach you nothing except technique. Once the fight goes down you wont have any of it in your system anymore, that being the technique. You learn to use it by sparring, bag waork etc in the gym aswell as learning to have self control. Good luck

just remember to throw a ton of punches. Amatuer scoring is a joke ( at least the few tournaments that i've been and watched ). Dont emulate the pros. Dont go for the knockout, throw a ton of punches. They will score the punches even if you dont connect.
But before all that...go to a gym. If you have some skill a trainer will notice you and work with you. The younger the better. Get a passbook and your good to go. IF your a beginner , you'll probably train for at least 6 months before you get in there. Get a ton of sparring. I guarantee you in your first amatuer fight you will forget half the **** you learned just because of the jitters ( well this is what happened to me )
The most important thing is to "RELAX" in the ring. If your all tense and clenched fisted you will tire quickly. LOTS OF SPARRING MAN!Comment

But even if you dont have "skill" just show them (the trainers) that you want it and your willing to work to learn. When in the gym dont walk around talking and such. When that bell rings you work on whatever it is that they have shown you. When the bell rings again then rest, thats your time. Just go in and work hard and they will work with you. Not every champion was a natural or had any kind of skill when first starting. They wanted it and worked hard for it. Heart plays a big part in this game.

Youre right about the scoring. And the jitters thing, you're right, to a beginner in an amateur fight, you really have to get mad, even if you can't get mad, just pretend like you're mad, and I guarantee you that you will have a lot of confidence and no fear. I just get myself mad then the first round bell dings and I'm on the other guy pounding on him. I don't relax at all. I actually think that relaxing might hurt you.Originally posted by Vanilla Gorillajust remember to throw a ton of punches. Heart plays a huge role. Oh yah.
As long as the trainer sees you are dedicated then he will work with you. The reason why i mentioned the skill thing is i have seen lots of young guys come into my gym wanting to fight. Some of them not all have absolutely no rythym and coordination. There have been a few trainers in my gym who dont work with them, just some pad work. I feel bad for these guys but some dudes just dont have it. WHen i say no rythym and coordiation i am going to the extremes.Comment
