Guin or Jirov didnt establish the jab like Rahman did. Jirov pressured Toney and was a close fight, Guin did not give Toney more probs then Rahman.Guin fought Toneys fight on the inside and and was schooled.

Here's what I'm saying, very succinctly:

Evander Holyfield was long shot by the time Toney beat his old ass.

Rahman is not a thinking man's fighter. He follows his corner's direction well; but doesn't adapt well inside the ring. If he did, he should have knocked Toney out. Those body shots he was hitting Toney with were "nothing punches". Why didn't he pour it on? In my opinion, Rock won that fight, anyway; but he was a little too amacible about the draw and a little too quick to make excuses for his opponent....which never happens....and a little too quick to start talking about a rematch in the post fight interview. Rock was bankrupt at the time; and I wouldn't be surprised if the whole fight was a set-up for a rematch. If Rock was serious about establishing himself as the Top Heavwyweight in the sport, he would have put more pressure on Toney, who was in deplorable condition. Instead, he used his jab to keep Toney at the end of it, as if James offered any real punching threat when anyone who knows anything knows the man doesn't have ANY punching power at heavyweight. Fishy, or incompetance, you be the judge.

Ruiz is an awkward fighter who fights with an offbeat rythm who utilizes clinches to great effect to throw his opponenst off their rhythm. Most heavyweights aren't that skilled in the finer points of the game, unlike Toney, who is as well rounded (no pun intended) as you could hope any fighter to be....and didn't fall for any of John's tactics. Toney is a far better fighter than John Ruiz could ever dream of being.

Guinn, what can I say? He had/has potential; but has not shown any initiative to really take charge in his last 5 or 6 fights. Maybe he's burned out on the sport due to an excessively long amateur career, who knows. All I know is he didn't take any real initiative to beat Toney as much as he seemed to be in awe of being in the ring with a bonafide Hall of Famer.

Toney has yet to get in the ring with a heavyweight that wants to put him "in his place", so to speak. Peter may or may not be that heavweight; but he seems hungry enough to actually go after the little man.

      That's what I'm saying.
Funny thing is Toney only had 5 fights in the HW division and his 5 fight resume is better then most of the belt holders today, only Rahman resume is better.

Toney is the only HW that is willing to fight anyone, he wants the big fights unlike the current title holders.

I got you, but who is a real HW then becasue between Ruiz and Rahman they have already beaten most of them. And people can alway make excuses for any fighter. I remember when Toney beat Booker and Holyfield everyone said Holy was old and not a real HW same with Booker, i can understand that but after getting in ther ewith Rahman/Ruiz and Guinn, peopl eshould just give him his credit. Most said he couldn't take a HW punch yet he is still standing. Even if he does get Dropped by Peter that wouldn't speak for his chin peter may be the hardest hitter in Boxing today.

No argument, there. One thing I've always loved about Toney is his big brass balls. He's willing to back up his smack, or die trying. You gotta love that.

Toney is my favorite fighter but I don't agree with Guinn and Jirov giving Toney tougher fights.

I thought Toney waon like 10 rounds against Guinn & like 8 against Jirov.

Both Guinn and Jirov fought Toney's fight, Toney was on the ropes all night and counter punching them, That's Toney's A game. Rahman did better with staying away from Toney.

I had Toney winning against Rhaman but that was the closest fight Toney had in the HW division. I had it 6-5-1 for Toney.

Hey, James is a man's man; and I've got a ton of respect for him as a fighter.....and he has got to have one monster of a chin, no doubt; but in the end, he's not a heavyweight, regardless of how much he weighs....he's got little hands. So, for him not being a natural heavy and beating the bigger men he's beaten...by outsmarting them....I give him all the credit in the world.

As far as "who are the heavyweights" right now.....Klitschko is the man, followed by Liakhovich, and Rahman. And even though I do honestly feel Rock won the Toney fight, the thing that kills me is that if James had come in in shape, I know he could have got the "W" with no problem.

That doesn't speak well of the big boys at the moment.....but; Toney would have big trouble, IMHO, with "young" tigers like Sultan Ibragimov and another coulple who's names I can't spell.....one goes by "White Tyson", of all things. A hungry young heayvweight is always going to spell trouble for a veteran blown up former middleweight who is depending too much on "what he knows"....ergo, all the knowledge he's acquried...if you know what I mean.

Klitschko, Liakhovich, even Valuev beat him....K & L by Kayo.

....and I wouldn't bet on him against Peter for that matter....it's gonna be Lights out for "Lights Out".

He's skilled, yes; but more importantly he's old and fat.
Oldy-Field haha. Good one. I'll have to use that one.
