so your point is that Holyfield/Rahman/Ruiz/Guinn are all bums, and Toney as yet to face a real HW. is that what u r saying.Originally posted by K-DOGG
I understand Holyfield held the Real Championship twice....100 years ago and Rahman held it for a few months before Lewis KHTFO.
Ruiz held a belt; but it was no championshiop....same with Rahman now.Comment

Well it was scored a draw so it couldn't have been that easy. And if Rahman had used any kind of strategy he could have won the fight. He was dominating Toney in the center of the ring but chose to go to the ropes and let him rest his round ass on the ropes the whole fight.Originally posted by TheGreat1u think so? i thought it was a pretty easy fight for ToneyComment

Toney wasn't resting on the ropes he was picking Rahman apart from the ropes. Which made it a easy night for him. The scoeing was tough but the fight was easy for toney. Guinn and Jirov gave him a much tougher fight.Originally posted by amagninWell it was scored a draw so it couldn't have been that easy. I think you are trying to say that Jirov and Guinn doled out more punishment but I don't see how you can say they were more difficult fight when he won both of those and drew against Rahman. And again, Toney was able to draw because Rahman is a stubborn idiot. If he listened to his corner he would have won the fight.Originally posted by TheGreat1Toney wasn't resting on the ropes he was picking Rahman apart from the ropes. No, I would never call any fighter a "bum".Originally posted by TheGreat1so your point is that Holyfield/Rahman/Ruiz/Guinn are all bums, and Toney as yet to face a real HW. is that what u r saying.
Here's what I'm saying, very succinctly:
Evander Holyfield was long shot by the time Toney beat his old ass.
Rahman is not a thinking man's fighter. He follows his corner's direction well; but doesn't adapt well inside the ring. If he did, he should have knocked Toney out. Those body shots he was hitting Toney with were "nothing punches". Why didn't he pour it on? In my opinion, Rock won that fight, anyway; but he was a little too amacible about the draw and a little too quick to make excuses for his opponent....which never happens....and a little too quick to start talking about a rematch in the post fight interview. Rock was bankrupt at the time; and I wouldn't be surprised if the whole fight was a set-up for a rematch. If Rock was serious about establishing himself as the Top Heavwyweight in the sport, he would have put more pressure on Toney, who was in deplorable condition. Instead, he used his jab to keep Toney at the end of it, as if James offered any real punching threat when anyone who knows anything knows the man doesn't have ANY punching power at heavyweight. Fishy, or incompetance, you be the judge.
Ruiz is an awkward fighter who fights with an offbeat rythm who utilizes clinches to great effect to throw his opponenst off their rhythm. Most heavyweights aren't that skilled in the finer points of the game, unlike Toney, who is as well rounded (no pun intended) as you could hope any fighter to be....and didn't fall for any of John's tactics. Toney is a far better fighter than John Ruiz could ever dream of being.
Guinn, what can I say? He had/has potential; but has not shown any initiative to really take charge in his last 5 or 6 fights. Maybe he's burned out on the sport due to an excessively long amateur career, who knows. All I know is he didn't take any real initiative to beat Toney as much as he seemed to be in awe of being in the ring with a bonafide Hall of Famer.
Toney has yet to get in the ring with a heavyweight that wants to put him "in his place", so to speak. Peter may or may not be that heavweight; but he seems hungry enough to actually go after the little man.
That's what I'm saying.Last edited by K-DOGG; 08-08-2006, 04:35 PM.Comment

yes that is what i'm saying, look at the fights not the decisions. Jirov and Guinn where tougher fights for him. Granted Toney was in better shape for both of those fight. but they where tougher, both guys made him fight and he did, Rahman didn't listen to his corner like u said, and allowed toney to do what he wanted. which made it an easy night for Toney. Had Rahman listen to his corner maybe he could have won, but that fact is Rahman isn't that smart of a fighter. Thats why he couldn't win, he was very lucky to be awarded a draw. Rahman himself looked surprised and happy to get a draw against ToneyOriginally posted by amagninI think you are trying to say that Jirov and Guinn doled out more punishment but I don't see how you can say they were more difficult fight when he won both of those and drew against Rahman.
