I have always liked Maidana, he was one bad ass brawler. If he was American or Mexican, he would have made much more money. He actually didn`t get any huge money in Floyd fights. That is why he wants to come back.

getting hit 45% of whats thrown at you and 60% of power shots while only landing at a 20% clip can be disheartening

its easier to say " he got no power doe" than to take a shot by a pro fighter

that rematch wasnt close...maidana won 3 rounds or less

they showed him respect because he hit them and they couldnt land weary of counters

the myth was " floyd would lose if they pressure him"

ask Hatton, Jesus Chavez, Carlos Hernandez, Cotto and Corely how that worked for them

Cotto wasn't a close fight at all.

What Cotto accomplished was winning 3 clear rounds and making Floyd work hard.

That's better than most Mayweather opponents.

Floyd admitted Cotto was tough immediately after the fight.

Honorable mention Corley who hurt Floyd 2-3 times.

Maidana was an unusual pressure fighter.

And he changed the levels of his punches to hit Floyd from awkward angles.

Every pressure fighter can left hook downstairs. But Maidana was the only one to keep Floyd in place with an extended right hand to pound his body with the left hook.

Marcos overhand right is great powershot for dealing with shoulder roll

Based off the work Maidana and Cotto were able to get done Floyd vs Duran & Floyd vs Armstrong would be great fights.

How does Floyd deal with all that head movement on top of educated pressure

I think most of his opponents tried to fight him like that but it’s easier said than done and like others pointed out Maidana at that time was on a roll and really motivated and in his prime vs an older Floyd. Plus he had a very unorthodox style of attacking which seemed to trouble Floyd. I seem to remember that Floyd had a lot of personal issues going into the first fight too (breakdown of engagement, losing kids to ******** etc) so I definitely think that had an impact too. There’s no way it couldn’t and you could tell he was far more focused/composed during their 2nd fight.

Gotta give credit to Maidana though. I loved it when he beat up Broner and to me the first fight with Floyd was TBE’s 2nd toughest fight ever. I thought he did better than Judah, Cotto, DLH and Pacquiao. He had a great game plan in that first fight and pushed Floyd to the limit.

Floyd isn't a hard puncher but he hurts you. He makes every single bit of force from the punches land, he makes them count. And he does it when you don't see them coming, that's why guys' heads snap back and all over the place when Floyd hits them. The head shaking around is painful, it's what makes them respect his underrated power.
