One of the only fighters who showed Floyd no respect, got stuck into him from round 1 and he arguably beat him despite being one of the biggest underdogs. Rematch was close too. Did too many other fighters buy into the myth of mayweather and show him too much respect thinking he was better than he actually was?
Why didn't more fighters get stuck into Floyd like maidana did?

Its easier said than done and Maidana did a lot of tricky things to make it harder for mayweather.
This is a good break down video, he would square up his legs a bit when mayweather was near to ropes to trap mayweather and not let him move out laterally.
Mayweather has his own tricks and a lot of these guys, they chase him but ineffectively. This video at 3:36 is a perfect example of Guerrero chasing mayweather towards the ropes, Mayweather stops and throws a quick light jab, while moving just as he feels his back graze against the ropes and Guerrero is coming in wide open. Mayweather doesnt have time to setup anything with power, that jab doesnt hurt Guerrero one bit but what it does is force him to reset and stops him dead in his tracks trying to rush in on mayweather and is still the only landed punch in that exchange, Mayweather has complete control of the space in the ring.
Maidanas skills and craftiness get underrated a bit, he had some odd angles that were hard for mayweather to avoid and some crafty positioning that allowed him to control the space better with mayweather better than other guys.Last edited by elfag; 04-10-2020, 10:56 AM. -
Most fighters think too much when facing floyd. They overthink which effects their performances. Alot of guys tried to box with the master boxer rather than doing the opposite.
Oscar Dela hoya had the right idea but couldnt sustain it for longer periods.
Maidana did it right. Best way to fight guys like Floyd is to rough him up, hitting him anywhere on the body, and Chino did just that. He didnt go in there to overthink shts.Comment

Floyd was to good and could adjust on the fly,you make it sound like it is just that simple but it isnt. Floyd gets disrespected to much on these forums not to mention he was 37 with Maidana. You claim Golivkin was old when he lost to Canelo but Floyd was even older against MaidanaComment

That rematch wasn't close lmao boringass fight. 1st matchup El Chino fought intelligently, power + brawling dirty, not tryna outbox him. Marcos wanted Floyd incapacitated, great plan.Comment

He had slightly declined when he fought Maidana. That’s the first time Floyd looked beatable IMO or at least the first time since Castillo. A younger Mayweather would’ve beat Maidana far easier IMO.Comment

Maybe Floyd had just aged and it caught up to him. Maybe he had a bad night. One of the only fighters who showed Floyd no respect, got stuck into him from round 1 and he arguably beat him despite being one of the biggest underdogs. Rematch was close too. Did too many other fighters buy into the myth of mayweather and show him too much respect thinking he was better than he actually was?
Floyd is no different than other athletes and fighters in terms of dealing with Father Time. Also, he is human so it’s possible he just had an off night.
The mark of real greatness is being able to win when you’re not at your best.Comment

Styles make fights, Maidana was one bad ass and maybe Floyd had bad night. rematch wasn`t close.
I was disappointed how bad Cotto looked against Floyd, I expected more.Comment

I thought rematch was pretty close, same as judges. But I agree with cotto, I never understand why people say that was a close fightComment
